SAN MARCOS ---- A terminally ill boy who employees of Stone Brewing had rallied behind died Tuesday, three days before a fund-raiser in his honor was set to start.
Sawyer Sherwood, the 8-year-old son of brewer Bill Sherwood, died of complications from Adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare neuro-degenerative disease known as ALD. He is survived by parents Bill and Janis and sister Amanda, all of Vista.
On Friday, Stone Brewing Co. will release a limited-edition beer in honor of Sawyer.
The beer, Sawyer's Triple, will be available at Stone Brewing, 155 Mata Way, San Marcos. Tasting hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
All proceeds from sales of the beer will go toward ALD organizations. Three hundred cases were produced and the beer will be on sale until it is sold out.
The company is asking people to purchase a maximum of six beers.
In a statement on the company's Web site, Greg Koch, the chief executive officer of the company, wrote: "The idea for Sawyer's Triple ... is for as many people as possible to get to enjoy some. Perhaps this is even more important with Sawyer's Triple as awareness is part of its purpose, and thus the more people that get to see it, the better."
