Supervisor seeks volunteers
RIVERSIDE - Supervisor Bob Buster, who oversees the county's 1st District, seeks volunteers for the Emergency Medical Care Committee and the Solid Waste Management Advisory Council.
Volunteers should have the time to attend meetings on a regular basis. The first district comprises Murrieta, Temecula, Lake Elsinore, Riverside and the unincorporated communities of Wildomar, Lakeland Village, Lake Mathews, Mead Valley and Santa Rosa Rancho. Portions of Gavilan Hills and Woodcrest are included, too.
The Emergency Medical Care Committee reports on all aspects of emergency medical care within the county. The Board of Supervisors appoints the 14-member committee.
The terms are three years long, and meetings are held every three months.
The volunteer position for the Solid Waste Management Advisory Council will study and evaluate solid-waste disposal and recycling issues. Meetings typically fall on the third Thursday of every other month. Terms are for a maximum of eight years.

Chamber plans dinner
WILDOMAR - A "Chicken/Ribs, Chat & Crafts" event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11.
The dinner is sponsored by the Wildomar Chamber of Commerce and Wildomar Incorporation Now. In addition to dinner, guests can browse crafters' tables and listen to music. The dinner will be held in the auditorium of David A. Brown Middle School, 21861 Grand Ave. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Blood drive on Thursday
LAKE ELSINORE - The Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties will accept blood donations between 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stater Bros. supermarket at 16750 Lakeshore Drive.
Donors will receive a coupon for one dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts at Stater Bros. and a calculator.

Garden club meets at Temecula library
TEMECULA - The Temecula Valley Garden Club meets the second Tuesday of every month.

MURRIETA - Soroptimist International of Tri-Valley is a service organization for professional businesswomen.
Members provide assistance and donations to the area's at-risk women, children and needy.

Women voters plan post-recall coffee
HEMET - The League of Women Voters will hold a post-recall coffee from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Public invited to meeting of panel
WINCHESTER - The newly formed County Archives Commission will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. next Wednesday at the Winchester Community Center, 32665 Haddock St.
The commission's task is to preserve Riverside County's recorded history, and attendees at the meeting will be able to ask questions of the commission.
Registration is not required, and there's no cost to attend.

Vendors sought for swap meet
SUN CITY - Vendors can sign up for a space at the Community Swap Meet and Craft Fair at Lazy Creek Park on Oct. 18.
Spaces are available for $10 each, and the event will help raise funds for children's equipment and activities at the Lazy Creek Recreation Center. For information, call 679-8092.
Pilots to fly for winning hand
FRENCH VALLEY - A poker run Saturday will feature pilots hopscotching around regional airports to collect enough cards for a winning hand.
The run is the 12th put on by the Coyote Country Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an organization of female pilots.
Pilots and their guests start at any one of six airports - Fallbrook, Ramona, Gillespie Field, Hemet, French Valley and Oceanside - but all must finish at French Valley by 2:30 p.m.
There is no registration fee, and hands cost $3 each. Four hands cost $10.

Monthly swap meet at new location
SUN CITY - The Kiwanis Club of Sun City/Menifee Valley has a new location for its monthly swap meet: the Guaranty Bank parking lot, 28031 Bradley Road.
The swap meet starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. Vendors can begin setting up at 7 a.m.

Assistance-dog club has new name
LAKE ELSINORE - The Elsinore Valley Assistance Dog Club is now the Inland Valley Assistance Dog Club.
Members will meet Sunday in the Community Room Annex of the Temecula Library, 41000 County Center Drive.
The meeting is open to owners and would-be owners of service, guide and hearing-assist dogs, as well as family members, friends, dog trainers and puppy raisers.
