LAKE ELSINORE ---- Police arrested 12 people on suspicion of driving under the influence at a sobriety/vehicle safety checkpoint in Lake Elsinore on Friday night, said Cpl. Gene McKinney of the Lake Elsinore Police Department.
More than 400 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Mission Trail and Malaga Road between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 1:45 a.m. Saturday, McKinney said Saturday.
Police arrested two people after finding methamphetamine and heroin in their car, McKinney said. Two other drivers were arrested for alleged possession of and transportation of methamphetamine. One driver was arrested when police learned the person was a state prison parolee and was wanted on a felony arrest warrant, he said. All five people were booked at Southwest Detention Center in French Valley.
A vehicle that was towed and stored by police had been reported stolen earlier that day. The car was reunited with its owner and a suspect has been identified in the alleged theft, he said.
