SAN DIEGO ---- Two U.S. flags that have flown over Afghanistan and Iraq as part of military operations will be flown outside the San Diego Police Headquarters.
The flags from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom will be formally accepted during a noon Tuesday ceremony at headquarters at 1401 Broadway, police said Friday.
"This ceremony is to show support for our employees and military personnel still serving in Enduring Freedom," a police spokesman said.
One flag was sent to the department by police officer and Master Sgt. Joel McMurrin while he was serving in the Marine Corps, he said. That flag flew over the U.S. Embassy at Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
The U.S. Navy donated the second flag, which flew above the USS Fletcher while it was in the Persian Gulf.
Fifteen San Diego police employees are serving on active duty in the U.S. military.
