Powerful storm to bring rain and waves

NORTH COUNTY ---- A Pacific storm packing a mean punch will arrive in this region Wednesday, bringing high surf and heavy rains, weather officials said.
Originating in the North Pacific Ocean, the winter storm is expected to shower the county between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. and generate surf of up to 8 feet high until Thursday, said Brandt Maxwell, a National Weather Service forecaster.
A flash flood watch has been issued for areas burned by the Cedar and Paradise fires, he said, because the lack of vegetation makes those areas vulnerable to mudslides.
There is also a potential for flooding along the coast because of high tides and strong waves. But a flood advisory has not been issued there, he said.
The storm is expected to end tonight as it moves to Arizona, leaving the county dry on Thursday, Maxwell said.
