Hospice fund-raiser set

TEMECULA - "A Day of Wine & Chocolate" on Sept. 26 will benefit Hospice of the Valleys.

Guests who attend the eighth annual fund-raiser at Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula will be able to sample wine and chocolate, bid at live and silent auctions, and enjoy the flamenco music of Eugene Cordero.

Proceeds from the event help support the terminally ill patients and their families that the Sun City-based hospice serves. In 2003, officials report, the hospice served 500 patients in Sun City, Temecula, Murrieta and other cities in Southwest County. They anticipate their services will be needed more as the population grows.

Advance tickets cost $35. At the door, they will cost $40. Call 672-1666.

Nurses seek volunteers

MURRIETA - Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties seeks volunteers for its hospice team.

Hospice volunteers help patients with such tasks as reading to them, writing their memoirs, running errands, making phone calls, doing household chores and being a companion. Training classes begin Thursday. Call Irene at 894-5340 for information.

Free yoga offered to first-timers

MURRIETA - Yoga Healing will offer a free yoga class Friday to first-time students.

People can choose from "Women's Yoga" at 9:15 a.m., "EZ Yoga for All" at 10:30 a.m. and the evening yoga class at 6 p.m.

Free concert at Murrieta park

MURRIETA - Classic rockers The Answer will perform at a free concert at

6:30 p.m. Wednesday at California Oaks Sports Park, 40600 California Oaks Road.

Candidate attends meet-up today

LAKE ELSINORE - Congressional candidate Mike Byron is scheduled to attend a "meet-up" at 8 p.m. today at Vincenzo's Olive Tree Restaurant, 31712 Casino Drive.

Byron is the Democratic candidate running against Republican Rep. Darrell Issa for the 49th Congressional District seat.

Executive corps seeks volunteers

HEMET - The Service Corps of Retired Executives, Inland Empire chapter, seeks volunteers.

The association is a national organization of active and retired businessmen and women who volunteer their expertise on small business and business start-ups.

Volunteers can help with one-on-one counseling, e-mail counseling or workshops and seminars. Other duties include fund-raising, marketing and recruiting volunteers.

Home decor on tap at Temecula lunch

TEMECULA - The Temecula Valley Women's Connection will hold a "Home and Garden Decor" luncheon Aug. 24 at Temeku Hills Golf & Country club, 41687 Temeku Drive.

In addition to decorating advice, members will hear from retired police Officer John Reed, who will discuss "The Stages of Life."

PFLAG to discuss safety in schools

TEMECULA - "Safe Schools for All" is the topic of discussion at the Sunday meeting of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

Square dancers offer Monday class

TEMECULA - The Grape Stompers Square Dance Club offers classes from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays at the Temecula Community Center, 28816 Pujol St.

VFW to hold dinner, auction

WILDOMAR - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1508 and the Ladies Auxiliary will hold a dinner and auction Saturday at the post, 21880 Waite St.

Proceeds will help buy holiday baskets and gifts for families with deployed military and local families in need.

The auction begins at

3 p.m, and dinner follows at 5. The suggested donation is $6.

The VFW is accepting donations for the auction. Items should be new or nearly new. Clothing will not be accepted. Call 674-4735.

Humane society to meet Friday

SUN CITY - The Menifee Valley Humane Society will meet at 2 p.m. Friday at Provident Bank, 27010 Sun City Blvd.

The guest speaker will be Robin Savage, a local dog and cat groomer who donates her time grooming rescued animals to make them more adoptable.

Corvette owners to meet Thursday

TEMECULA - The Over the Hill Gang, Temecula Valley, a car enthusiasts club, will hold a poker run through Wine Country on Oct. 24.
