Supervisor seeks commission member
RIVERSIDE - County Supervisor Bob Buster seeks a candidate to represent Zone 3 on the Riverside County Flood Control Commission.
Commissioners help develop the annual budget for the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District. They also serve as a contact for residents of the zone they serve.
Zone 3 includes Lake Elsinore, excluding Tuscany Hills; Warm Springs Valley; Sedco Hills; Lakeland Village; and El Cariso. Commissioners can serve up to three 3-year terms.

Ceremony celebrates new club
MENIFEE - A celebration of the area's newest Lions Club, the Menifee Valley Lions, is set for Aug. 28 at the Wooden Nickel Ranch, 25690 Holland Road.
Lions Club district governor Bill Howard will present members of the new club with their official charter.
Cocktails begin at 5 p.m., followed by a dinner and the ceremony.
The cost to attend is $20 per person.
Thirty members, most of them residents of Menifee Valley, have launched the new club.
The Wildomar Lions Club sponsored the group's formation.

Senior center offers help with tax rebate forms
LAKE ELSINORE - The Lake Elsinore Senior Center will help seniors and disabled residents fill out homeowners and renters assistance forms for free.
Each year, the California Franchise Tax Board offers senior and disabled renters and homeowners a rebate. Renters may be eligible for a rebate up to $347, and homeowners, $472.
To receive a rebate, residents must be at least 62 years old or disabled or blind, and a U.S. citizen or qualified alien. Their household income cannot exceed $38,505. Homeowners must have owned and lived in their home since Dec. 31, 2003. Renters must have paid at least $50 a month in rent.
To get the senior center's help in filling out the forms, call 674-2526 for an appointment. The center is at 420 E. Lakeshore Drive.
Byron campaign to host film, talk
TEMECULA - The Byron for Congress campaign will screen the documentary "Beyond Treason - The Killing of the U.S. Military" on Sunday, followed by discussion with Mike Byron, Democratic candidate for the 49th Congressional District.
The film, by U.S. Air Force captain and Gulf War veteran Joyce Riley, alleges medical experimentation on U.S. military personnel and their exposure to Agent Orange and depleted uranium.
The film begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Temecula Library, 41000 County Center Drive.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
In addition, the Byron campaign will screen "Invisible Ballots," about the problems with electronic voting, at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Temecula Library.

MURRIETA - The American Association of University Women, Temecula Valley, will hold a fall membership reception for current and prospective members.

Car club to hold October poker run
TEMECULA - The Over the Hill Gang, Temecula Valley, a car enthusiasts club, will hold a poker run through Wine Country on Oct. 24.
Drivers will draw a card at each stop, and the best hands at the end of the route win. Stops include Casino Pauma, Callaway Winery, Ponte Winery and South Coast Winery. The event is structured to allow participants the chance to relax, sample wines and participate in casino activities throughout the day.
Check-in is between 7 and 10 a.m. at the Five and Diner restaurant at The Promenade mall. The last stop will be at Casino Pauma, where there will be a raffle at 3 p.m.
Registration costs $25. It is open to all types of cars and trucks.

Club plans turtle and tortoise show
