Promotions, new hires and awards:
Rubio's selects president, CEO
CARLSBAD ---- Rubio's Restaurants Inc., headquartered in Carlsbad, has promoted Sheri Miksa to the post of president and chief executive officer, and appointed her to the board of directors of the company. Ralph Rubio will remain chairman of the board.
World Waste hires CFO
CARMEL MOUNTAIN RANCH ---- World Waste Technologies Inc., a Carmel Mountain Ranch company, has added David Rane to the company as chief financial officer. Rane served as chief financial officer of Callaway Golf Co. from 1994 to 2000.
Symposium gains co-producer
Producers of the annual Women in Business Symposium say that Joan Burns, owner of Sampson Associates, has agreed to become a co-producer. Burns will join founder Sheila McDonnell and co-producer Karen Winston in developing the sixth annual Women in Business Symposium on May 19 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar.
Carlsbad jeweler certified
CARLSBAD ---- Terry Sholdar, assistant manager of Ben Bridge Jewelers at Westfield Shoppingtown Plaza Camino Real in Carlsbad, has been certified as a Registered Jeweler of the American Gem Society.
Memec appoints director
Memec, a global semiconductor distributor based in Carmel Valley, has appointed Victor Koh as managing director of Memec China. Koh is based in Shanghai's industrial and financial center.
Xenonics creates new post
CARLSBAD ---- Xenonics Holdings Inc. of Carlsbad says Richard L. Hall has been named to the new position of director of commercial sales and marketing.
Local woman starts Joannimals

RemedyTemp leader re-elected
Staffing organization RemedyTemp, which has eight offices in North County and three in Riverside County, says that its president and CEO, Greg Palmer, has been re-elected to the American Staffing Association board of directors.

CARLSBAD ---- Breach Security Inc., headquartered in Carlsbad, has appointed Kevin Overcash as vice president of product management.

ESCONDIDO ---- J.R. Rivera has won salesperson of the month honors for October at Mercedes-Benz of Escondido.
Axesstel elects board members
RANCHO BERNARDO ---- Axesstel Inc., which develops, manufactures and markets CDMA-based fixed wireless local loop, hybrid terminals and engineering services, says that Ake Persson and Lixin Cheng have been elected to its board of directors.
VP named for Invitrogen unit
CARLSBAD ---- Invitrogen Corp., a provider of life science technologies for disease research and drug discovery, says that Norman "Norrie" J.W. Russell has joined the company as vice president and general manager of its Functional Genomics Strategic Business Unit.
MONY agent completes courses
Vista resident John F. Howells, with the MONY Life Insurance Co., recently finished courses on wealth preservation and distribution strategies at an AXA Advisors University session in Bryn Mawr, Penn.
USD chooses five for council
Five new members have been elected to the University of San Diego's alumni service and advisory council: Bill Brennan of Barney & Barney, Burt Brigida of California Bank & Trust, Tim Bubnack of Silicon Valley Bank, Robin Felix of Titan Corp. and Julie Zures of Kyocera Wireless Corp.
CSUSM student receives GEICO internship
SAN MARCOS ---- Dmitri Biriouk, a Cal State San Marcos senior from Russia, has been named the winner of the 2004 GEICO Internship/Scholarship Program. He will receive a $5,000 scholarship and an internship experience with the company.
Sales agent raising funds
