John Aseltine, 68

MURRIETA ---- John Wyman Aseltine, 68, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Rancho Springs Medical Center.

Born May 7, 1936, in Glendale, he lived in Murrieta for seven years. He was a senior claims adjustor in the insurance industry for 40 years. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953 to 1958. He had an associate's degree. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Temecula, where he sang in the choir. He was a youth baseball umpire. He enjoyed antique cars, bowling and sports, especially baseball.

Mr. Aseltine was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Charlotte Aseltine. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bette Aseltine of Murrieta; sons and daughter-in-law Jon Aseltine of Glendale and Perry and Dana Aseltine of Burbank; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jay Nelson of Perris; brother, Arthur Aseltine Jr.; and grandchild Skyler.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Stout Family Funeral Home in Temecula. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Temecula. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside.

Rolland Pike, 83

TEMECULA ---- Rolland W. Pike, 83, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in San Diego.

Born Aug. 18, 1921, in Los Angeles, he lived in Temecula for eight years. He was an Episcopal priest for 17 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant during World War II. He received a master's degree from Stanford in 1952.

Mr. Pike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne T. Pike of Temecula; sons Thomas Pike of Yorba Linda, Daniel Pike of Temecula and David Pike of Kentucky; daughter, Lucy of Corona; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the United Methodist Church in Temecula. Interment is at Riverside National Cemetery.

BettyJean Middleton, 78

WILDOMAR ---- BettyJean B. Middleton, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Kindred Hospital.

Born March 22, 1926, in Los Angeles, she lived in Wildomar for one year. She was an operations supervisor for Crocker/Wells Fargo Bank for 23 years. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Middleton was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Middleton, in 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Judy Salvador of Ventura; daughters and son-in-law Jean and Michael Robbins of Long Beach and Lee Carpenter of Murrieta; and grandchildren Steven, Daniel, Olivia and Elena.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Riverside National Cemetery with the Rev. Harry Kries officiating.

MURRIETA ---- Mildred P. Willard, 79, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at her home.

Born Dec. 10, 1925, in Stroud, Okla., she lived in Murrieta for one year. She lived in Coto De Caza in Orange County previously. She was a member of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Willard was preceded in death by her brothers, Glen, Leland, Raymond and Bert Jr. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Horace Willard of Murrieta; sons Larry Willard of Los Gatos and Gary Willard of Murrieta; sisters Sylvia of Gilroy, Bernice of Orville, Ruby of Stanton and Julie of Redding; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Jan. 5, at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest with the Rev. Glen Kruen officiating. James Stewart Jr., 80

SUN CITY ---- James C. Stewart Jr., 80, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005.

Born Oct. 22, 1924, in Story, Ark., he lived in Sun City for eight months. He lived in Fallbrook for 55 years previously. He retired after 40 years as a superintendent of the Fallbrook Public Utilities District. He was a founding member of the Living Waters Christian Fellowship. He was a member of the Fallbrook Assembly of God Church and a Royal Ranger leader in the church for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Stewart, in 2003. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Ladean Stewart of Bloomington, and Gary and Teresa Stewart of Sun City; brother, Bob Stewart of New Mexico; sisters Lona Hoover of Phoenix, Lena Haselwood of Fallbrook and Laverna Freeman of Wisconsin; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, Jan. 5, at the Living Waters Christian Fellowship in Fallbrook with the Rev. Jack McGoldrick officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

Born July 4, 1919, in Phoenix, she lived in Temecula for 10 years. She lived in Bonsall for 30 years previously. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Brownell was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice B. Brownell, in 1995. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Ralph and Carolyn Brownell of Temecula and Charles and Sandi Brownell of Atascadero; daughters and sons-in-law Maureen and Robert Oskey of Camarillo and Susan and Ray Goodlet of Dickson, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

TEMECULA ---- Norma Louise Richardson Hitz, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Ramona Manor Convalescent Hospital in Hemet.

She was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Oklahoma.

Mrs. Hitz was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Lena Meeker Richardson. She is survived by her daughter, Liz Reams of Virginia; sons Robert Logan Johnson of Oklahoma, and James Hitz Jr. of Temecula; brother, Bill Richardson of Texas; and three grandchildren.

Calvin Scherer, 86

WILDOMAR ---- Calvin Scherer, 86, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar of natural causes.

He was born May 3, 1918, in Pollock, S.D., He retired after 30 years with American Motors Corp. in Kenosha, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 200 in Lake Elsinore for more than 20 years.

Mr. Scherer is survived by his wife, Louise Scherer of Wildomar; daughter, Janice Ann Bogard of Kenosha; sons Leon James Scherer of Wildomar, Michael John Scherer and Calvin David Scherer, both of Kenosha; sister, Sarah Abbott; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret Haunschild, 95

OCEANSIDE -- Margaret E. Haunschild, 95, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at her home of heart failure.

Born Sept. 16, 1909, she lived in Oceanside for 27 years. She was an elementary school teacher in La Crosse, Wis. She had a knitting shop in La Crosse. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O. and also the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed knitting, golfing and traveling.

Mrs. Haunschild was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman C. Haunschild, in 2000. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Raine Vincent of San Francisco, Gerald and Arlene Haunschild of Appleton, Wis., and Robert and Diane Haunschild of Oceanside; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside. Interment will be in September in Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse.

CARLSBAD -- Lillian Faye Huffman, 70, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at her home of natural causes.

Born March 18, 1934, in Mills, N.M., she lived in Carlsbad for 50 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Huffman was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Pearl Hurford; and brother Albert Hurford. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Huffman of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law Brent and Cindy Huffman of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; daughters and sons-in-law Christine and Joe Moore and Beverly Batchelder, all of Carlsbad, and Susanne and Rick Lathrop of Lake Havasu; brother and sister-in-law Tilford and Lucy Hurford of Leucadia; and grandchildren Hannah, Heather, Jordanne, Ashley, Brittney, Clint, Brooke, Anthony, Trent and Whitney.

John McNamara, 63

ESCONDIDO -- John G. McNamara, 63, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at his home.

Born May 31, 1941, in Washington, D.C., he lived in Escondido for 17 years. He was the assistant dean for development and external affairs at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle. He was a Rotarian for more than 20 years. He was involved in training people to do fund raising for various schools and colleges. He received a bachelor's degree from Villanova University and a law degree from the University of Denver.

Mr. McNamara was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Patricia McNamara. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen McNamara of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Patrick McNamara of Escondido and Daniel and Christine McNamara of San Diego; daughters and sons-in-law Theresa and Terrance Cosgrove of Seattle and Christine and Michael Nulty of Omaha, Neb.; brothers and sister-in-law Timothy and Judy McNamara of Pine Ridge, S.D., and Jerome McNamara of Denver; and grandchildren Matthew, Emily, Julie, Anna and Trace.

SAN MARCOS -- Frederick "Fritz" Kelly Jr., 77, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at a local hospital.

Born Oct. 30, 1927, in Goldfield, Iowa, he lived in San Marcos for 30 years. He was a retired Realtor.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 507 in Iowa, the San Diego Scottish Rite, the Al Bahr Shrine and the Jesters.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his son, Rick Kelly of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and George Paulos of Cotta De Caza; sister Mary Lou Miller of Littleton, Colo.; and grandson Jimmy.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the United Church of Lake San Marcos with Dr. Ralph Johnson officiating.

Born Dec. 4, 1922, in Dijon, France, she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She retired in 1984 after 20 years as a secretary for Air France.

Mrs. Mochel is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roland Mochel of Escondido.

SANTA ANA -- Phillip Gallegos, 52, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, of cancer.

Born March 27, 1952, in Santa Ana, he lived in Santa Ana for 33 years. He was a carpenter.

Mr. Gallegos was preceded in death by his father, Jess Gallegos, Jan. 1, 1976.

Born March 13, 1921, in Dorchester, Mass., he lived in Poway for 36 years. He retired as a tool and die maker at Sony Electronics.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed cooking.

Mr. Dunmore was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Dunmore, in 2002.

He is survived by his brother, Ned Turner of Cusic, Wash.; sisters Cleora Preston and Mildred Wood, both of Milton, Vt., Eileen Heath of Concord, N.H., Beryl Pitkin of Troy, N.Y., and Frances Adolph of South Royalton, Vt.; and granddaughter Laura.

Thurman Shipley, 81

OCALA, Fla. -- Thurman Shipley, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005.

Born Aug. 18, 1923, in Prescott, Ariz., he lived in Ocala for 10 years. He was an independent distribution contractor for The San Diego Union and Evening Tribune in Oceanside and Carlsbad for 40 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Oceanside Elks Lodge 1561, where he served as Exalted Ruler, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and California Hawaiian Executive Trustee.

Mr. Shipley is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Shipley of Ocala; sons Michael Shipley of Carlsbad and David Shipley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter Dorothy Reynolds of Gordensville, Va.; and grandchildren Holly, Reid, Stuart, Stephnie, Spencer and Brittney.

A service will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, in Ocala.

Mrs. Betancourt was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Betancourt, in 2001.

She is survived by her stepsons, Edward Joseph Betancourt of Oceanside and Kit Devila of Martinez.

SAN MARCOS -- Marianne Arcidiacono, 54, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in San Diego.

Born Sept. 12, 1950, in New York, she lived in San Marcos for 32 years and retired as a secretary for the city of Carlsbad in 2003. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Ralph Kellogg, 76

SAN MARCOS -- Ralph E. Kellogg, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at a local convalescent home.

Born Dec. 16, 1928, in Danbury, Neb., he lived in San Marcos for 29 years. He was a teacher and school superintendent. He worked for San Marcos Unified School District for 10 years and had worked for National University, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Escondido, where he sang in the choir as a tenor soloist. He also was a member of Toastmasters.

Mr. Kellogg is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cleda J. Kellogg of San Marcos; sons and daughters-in-law Kevin S. and Mollie Kellogg and Curtis C. and Dawn Kellogg, all of Oceanside, and Dawson R. and Elizabeth Kellogg of Columbus, Ohio; daughters and a son-in-law, Andrea S. Kellogg of San Diego and M. Colleen and Robert Pew of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Jefferson V. and Ann Kellogg of Paradise, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

A viewing is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel.

A memorial is planned at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the First United Methodist Church of Escondido (4th & Kalmia in Escondido) with the Rev. Faith Conklin officiating. A private interment will follow at San Marcos Cemetery.

Evelyn Norgard, 89

OCEANSIDE -- Evelyn M. Norgard, 89, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at home of cancer.

Born Jan. 23, 1915, in Gilbert, Minn., she lived in Oceanside for 53 years. She retired from W. T. Grant and was a member of the Young Women's Institute, Stella Maris Chapter No.183.

Mrs. Norgard was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Norgard.

She is survived by her her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Theresa of Del Mar; daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Ronald of Palm Desert; grandchildren Brian, David and Lori; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Mulcahy officiating.

Jean Bogner, 85

POWAY -- Jean Bogner, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005.

Born July 29, 1919, in Tacoma, Wash., she was a resident of Poway for 40 years. She was a homemaker for 60 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Circle for 40 years, and a member of the Autobond for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing.

Mrs. Bogner is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Bogner of Poway; her son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Maryann Bogner of Corona del Mar; her daughter, Karen Delangelo of Fortuna; and grandchildren, Spencer and Bradley.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Dearborn Memorial Park, 14361 Tierra Bonita Road, Poway.

Wallace Ostrowski, 83

CARLSBAD -- Wallace "Wally" Ostrowski, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004.

Born Dec. 10, 1921, in Lynn, Mass., he was a resident of Carlsbad. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II as a dive-bomber, gunner and radar operator. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Air Medals. He retired from a film career with the Walt Disney Co. He collected model trains and was an avid gardener.

Mr. Ostrowski is survived by his wife, Carla, of Carlsbad; sons William and Stanley and daughters-in-law Margaret and Micha; and grandchildren Amy, Sara, Duane and Misty.

There will be a private memorial service at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Albert Smith, 91

ESCONDIDO -- Albert Clifford Smith, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004.

Born Sept. 25, 1913, in Blackpool, England, he was a resident of Escondido for 37 years. He was an area inspector in telecommunications for the British government. He served in the Royal Corps of Signals in the British Army during World War II.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 22 years, Phyllis Smith of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Connie Smith of Valley Center, Norman and Jane Smith of Telford, England, and Clifford and Christine Smith of Scotsdale, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Dorothy Jane and Sydney Winnard of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial at sea is planned.

Jack Champion, 72

FALLBROOK -- Jack Champion, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at his home.

Born Nov. 12, 1932, in Evanston, Ill., he was a resident of Fallbrook for 16 years. He retired as an aerospace engineer for TRW in 1988.

Mr. Champion is survived by his nieces, Darcy Champion Pierce of Saratoga and Rory Champion of Ireland.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary. Inurnment will be in Coldwater, Mich.

Mimi Martin, 102

OCEANSIDE -- Mimi Martin, 102, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at her home.

Born May 18, 1902, in Jamestown, Kan., she lived in Oceanside for 25 years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed oil painting. She was the matriarch of a five-generation family.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Martin, in 1947.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Daheim of Oceanside and Shirley Watt of Encino; five grandchildren, Michele and Les Judd of Carlsbad, and Brady, Wendy and Ryan Watt of Encino; five great-grandchildren, Kacy Sissenwein, Kary Cunningham, Christopher Watt, Garrett Watt and Laurel Watt; and three great great-grandchildren, Sarah Holmes, Ryan Lundstrom and Jaycie Cunningham.

To the world you might have been one person, but to your family you were the world.

Interment will be at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, 4050 Mission Ave. in Oceanside.

Gertrude H. Aker

Gertrude H. Aker, born September 19, 1920, in El Paso, Texas, to Jerry and Ethel Hayes, passed away December 13, 2004.

She was preceded by her husband of 62 years, Preston Aker in 2002. She is survived by two sons, William and Harold; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Raised in the Duncan, Ariz., area, she and Preston moved to Escondido, Calif., in 1946, where they lived for 32 years. They moved to Safford, Ariz., in 1978. Over the years, friends and family members always felt welcome at the kitchen table, and any who needed it found a helping hand at the Aker household. She enjoyed RV travel with friends, bridge and knitting.

Memorial services will be held at 10:45 a.m. at the Safford Funeral Home, 501 Relation St., on January 8, 2005. A get-together to celebrate her life will be held immediately afterwards across the street at the home of Stella Cosper.

Linwood J. Van

Linwood J. Van, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, surrounded by his children.

Born July 24, 1921, in New Britain, Connecticut, he resided in Carlsbad for the past 22 years. He immediately became involved with his city he now called home. He became the chairperson concerning the construction of the Senior Center. He became a member of the Senior Council under the mayor of Carlsbad.

He was a drummer in the Swing Band known as the Golden Tones. He also was a member of the St. Patrick Church in Carlsbad.

He was a veteran of World War II, assigned to the 8th Air Force in England. As an additional duty, he was a member of the 8th Air Force Band. He was a graduate of the University of Hartford, and prior to his retirement, he was executive administrator in the engineering department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., for 41 years.

He leaves a brother, Arthur Van of Oceanside, Calif.; a son, James Van of Providence, R.I.; a daughter, Catherine Reitman of Glasgow, Va.; three grandchildren; niece Denise Thurman of Oceanside; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, George X. Van and Irene (Carrigen) Van; brothers William Van, Edward Van of New Britain, Conn., and Vincent Van of Southington, Conn.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside. A memorial service is also planned in mid-January, at St. Paul's Church in Glastonbury, Conn., of which he was a member prior to his move to Carlsbad.

Shirley Mae McCabe, 55

OCEANSIDE - Shirley Mae McCabe, 55, passed away Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Tri-City Medical Center due to sudden death; her cremains were sent to sea in Oceanside.

Born March 7, 1949, in Winona, Minnesota, she graduated from Rochester High School. Shirley later on worked as a clothing buyer for Donaldson's in Minnesota, and Jacobson's in San Diego, Calif.

Shirley's love of horses was her passion. Her expertise in cookery and bakery at her husband, Jack McCabe's business, McCabe's Beach Club in Oceanside, Calif., was such an asset.

Mrs. McCabe was preceded in death by her mother, Irma Hargrove. She is survived by her husband, Jack McCabe of Oceanside, Calif.; son Michael Forchay, daughter-in-law Candace and granddaughter Camryn, all of Minnesota; also father John Hargrove and brother Richard Hargrove, both of Mesa, Ariz., (also numerous nephews and nieces).

Shirley will be loved and missed by all.

Wilber Joseph Thornton

ESCONDIDO - Wilber Joseph Thornton, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

Born March 27, 1912, in Riddle, Ore., he lived in Escondido and San Marcos his whole life. He was the owner and operator of Wilber's Place. He was one of the founders of North County Health Services. He was president of the board when they built the first clinics in San Marcos and Encinitas.

Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Thornton; brothers Jimmy Thornton, Sept. 8, 1999, and Bruce Thornton Nov. 8, 1999; grandson Shawn Thornton; and great-nephew Marshall David Thornton.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Joseph and Linda Thornton of Pittsfield, Mass; sisters Eleanor Itzinia of Downey and Virginia Gillespie of Desert Hot Springs; sisters-in-law Marvel Irene Thornton and Jeannette Thornton; nephews Dennis and wife Robin Thornton of Escondido, Thomas Thornton of Los Angeles, William Thornton of Escondido, Michael, Terry and Paul Thornton, all of Redding; nieces Nancy Pabreza of Michigan, Kimberly Bloodgood and April Renae Thornton, both of Escondido, Sharon Dent of Redding and Mary Huber of Colorado; grandchildren Joseph and Megan; and great-niece Maycie.

Viewing is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.

Thomas Bistline

VISTA -- Thomas Nesbitt Bistline "Tom," 86, died at home on Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, in 1994.

He is survived by his two loving sons, Thomas Nesbitt Bistline Jr. (Bonnie) and Donald Alan Bistline (Claire); grandchildren Amy Bistline Guidi (Ray), and John and Anne Bistline; and great-grandsons Jack and Ben Guidi.

Born in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1918, the son of Samuel Nesbitt and Mary Bistline, the family moved to Alhambra, Calif., in 1921.

He married Carol Lee Dermid in 1942.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and Carol then returned to Alhambra, California, where they lived until 1966.

Tom's career as a hydraulic and pneumatic sales engineer moved he and Carol from Alhambra, Calif., to New Orleans and Houston for a few years. They happily returned to their home in sunny Southern California, to enjoy living out their later years.

A loyal and thoughtful husband, a loving and guiding father and a true gentleman, Tom was held in high regard by all who knew him.

Private cremation and scattering of ashes at sea are planned.

Alice Nelson, 92

ESCONDIDO - Alice Marie Nelson, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004.

Born June 5, 1912, in Hermitage, Mo., she lived in Escondido for 59 years. She was a homemaker. During World War II she worked at Oakland Shipyard. She owned and operated a chicken ranch and did upholstering.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel T. Nelson, in 1990.

She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Bishop of Torrance; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.
