GM recalls nearly 200,000 vehicles for various defects

DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles because of safety defects with brakes, gas pedals and windshields, federal regulators said Thursday.
GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company is not aware of any injuries caused by any of the defects.
The largest recall is of 155,465 pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles because of possible brake malfunctions. The recall covers a wide range of vehicles including the Hummer H2, Chevrolet Silverado and Suburban; and the GMC Yukon XL. All of the affected vehicles are from the 2004 and 2005 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a pressure accumulator in the braking system could crack during driving and fragments could injure people if the hood was open. The crack also could allow fluid to leak, which could make it harder to brake or steer and could cause a crash.
In addition, General Motors is recalling nearly 20,000 Cadillac XLR coupes, SRX SUVs and Pontiac Grand Prix sedans from the 2004 model year because the gas pedal may stick in extremely cold temperatures.
GM also is recalling 17,815 Buick Raniers, Chevrolet Trailblazers, GMC Envoys and Isuzu Ascenders from the 2005 model year because the windshield could fall out in a crash.
Adler said certain humidity levels can loosen the adhesive used to bond the windshild to metal, increasing the chances of the windshield popping out of its frame in a crash.

Jesse wrote on Apr 26, 2008 5:41 PM:I just wanted to know if there is more recall's on the 2005 GM Trail Blazer's because we are having trouble with our's the trail blazer will not start at all an when it did start my mom said it stalled out while she was driving in heavy traffic luckily she managed to pull into a store out of traffic an when she turned it back on it turned on like if nothing was wrong.
