Day Trips: Good Old Days return to Temecula

If chrome, iridescent paint and vintage cars are your thing, burn rubber to Temecula today for the Good Old Days Car Show at Old Town Front Street, which will feature plenty of all three.

More than 800 vehicles will be on display for the show, which began Friday with a cruise through Old Town, continued Saturday, and winds down today with an awards ceremony at 2 p.m. The cars are available for a "show and shine" viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual event, put on this year by Central Coast Car Shows out of Pismo Beach, is expected to attract between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.

The car show has become a staple in the community, attracting car enthusiasts, auto industry professionals and those who simply like to look at the countless varieties of classic cars and chat with their proud owners.

Many of the owners have spent years and thousands of dollars restoring the vehicles, and the show can become an impromptu arena for those interested in buying or selling the models.

This year, the event offered poker games on Friday and Saturday as side entertainment for those caught up in the recent card-game craze, spurred by television shows and celebrity tournaments.

An arts and crafts row as well as food booths remain open today.

Parts of Old Town will remain closed to vehicle traffic today. Old Town Front Street will be closed between Sixth and First streets from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as several side streets intersecting with Front, including First, Second, Third, Main, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth streets.
