Tsunami scare proves warning system works

SAN DIEGO ---- The alarms went off quickly during Tuesday's tsunami alert. And emergency crews efficiently spread the word. But many people inexplicably rushed toward the beaches rather than away from them. Emergency 911 lines were jammed with information seekers, and the thought of having to carry out mass evacuations if and when they are needed still worries some officials.

DEL MAR ---- Tens of thousands of mostly unaware fair-goers at the Del Mar Fairgrounds were "minutes away from evacuation" Tuesday night as fair officials responded to a tsunami alert spawned by an earthquake in Northern California, officials said Wednesday.

Report: Casino revenues jump 13 percent statewide

NORTH COUNTY ---- Fueled in part by increased numbers of slots, video machines and gaming tables at tribal casinos, gaming revenues have spiked by more than half a billion dollars for tribes in California, according to an American Indian gaming report released Tuesday.
