Airport board to discuss site selection

SAN DIEGO ---- The agency in charge of the search for a new airport will talk about that selection process on Monday.

Members of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority also will review improvement projects at the existing Lindbergh Field in a session that starts at 9 a.m.

In the second part of the meeting, board members will hear a report on a recent interactive discussion that took place over the Internet where the general public was invited to give its views on proposed airport sites. The board also will hear a presentation on the general public outreach and education effort.

The authority must come up with a recommendation for a new airport or expansion of Lindbergh, formally known as San Diego International Airport, in time for a November 2006 countywide ballot issue.

Proposed sites in Campo in southeastern San Diego and a site in Imperial County remain on the list of potential sites. Borrego Springs is officially still on the list, as are sites on military bases but none of those are deemed practical.

Monday's meeting takes place on the third floor of the airport's Commuter Terminal building and is open to the public.
