Retired fire chief dies

MENIFEE ---- David L. Flake, the county fire chief from 1974 to 1984, died Saturday at his home in Menifee, fire officials said in a release Monday. He was 76, an official said.
Flake's career in firefighting began in 1947 and spanned 39 years, mostly in Riverside County, states the release.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory, 26770 Murrieta Road, Sun City. A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Temple Baptist Church, 745 N. Perris Blvd., in Perris, followed by interment at Miller-Jones Memorial Park next to the mortuary. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Museum, 3800 Sierra Way, San Bernardino, CA 92405.
