VISTA ---- A law enforcement training video made in Vista about how to spot human trafficking premiered Monday evening at the Avo Playhouse.

"Sex Trafficking: Looking for Indicators" will be available to law enforcement agencies throughout the nation as part of the effort to stop the second most prevalent international crime, said Deputy Rick Castro of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"It's the only training video of its kind," Castro said.

The 21-minute film was financed with some of the money from a three-year $448,134 federal grant obtained by the Sheriff's Department to start a regional human trafficking task force in this county.

Mark Day, 65, of Vista, the film's producer-director, said he and his wife also donated money to make the video, which featured a cast and crew of deputies and residents from across North County.

"We did three scenarios that were actual cases," said Vista Deputy Jim Smith.

The scenes depicting a traffic stop, an incident of domestic violence and a brothel raid outline things law enforcement officers need to be aware of that might point to people being brought into the United States for forced labor or prostitution.
