Faith Lutheran accredited
VISTA ---- Faith Lutheran School, which serves kindergarten through eighth-grade students, recently received a six-year term of accreditation from the Western Association of Schools & Colleges. The letter from the WASC stated that the "action was taken after careful study of the visiting committee report which noted many laudable aspects of your school." Faith Lutheran, at 700 E. Bobier Drive, opened in the fall of 1979 and has an enrollment of more than 200 students. For more information about the campus, call (760) 724-7700.
CHS cheer team seeks garage sale donations
CARLSBAD --- The Carlsbad High School cheer program will hold its annual garage sale fund-raiser on Sept. 9.
Donations of resalable items from the community are needed and can be dropped off from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at a container in the senior parking lot of the school, 3557 Lancer Way.

Oceanside grad earns award
Britinee Yasukochi of Oceanside, the daughter of Donal and Norene Yasukochi, received the Carol Lattimer Community Service Scholarship Award during the 2006 Awards Day Ceremony at The Bishop's School in La Jolla. The award is given to a senior each year who exemplifies the meaning of giving and caring, while accepting the challenge to help others. During her time at Bishop's, Britinee worked at the Carlsbad Library, mentored children at the Oceanside Boys & Girls Club, worked with autistic children at the Mission Valley YMCA summer camp and helped with the city of San Diego's Wheelchair Sports Camp. She is a resident of Oceanside and will attend Occidental College.
Carlsbad resident graduates
Brian Carmody, the son of Kevin and Cora Carmody of Carlsbad, recently graduated from Simon's Rock College of Bard in Great Barrington, Mass. He earned an associate of arts degree. The school is the country's only four-year liberal arts and sciences college designed for students of high-school age. Students enter after the 10th or 11th grade. The college is affiliated with Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
RSF woman makes dean's list
Alexandra Hooper of Rancho Santa Fe earned a spot on the spring 2006 semester dean's list at Syracuse University. A biology major, she qualified for the honor by achieving at least a 3.4 grade point average during the semester.
Vista High class of '66 to reunite
Vista High School's class of 1966 will hold its 40th reunion Aug. 11 and 12. An icebreaker will be held at the Casa Linda restaurant in Vista, with the reunion following at The Windmill Banquet Room in Carlsbad.

VHS alumni picnic planned
VISTA ---- The Vista High School class of 1965 will hold its annual picnic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at Wildwood Park. Members of the class of 1966, who are attending their 30th reunion the same weekend, are invited. Attendees should bring their own food, drink, chairs, sunscreen and other items. Local students awarded
Hilary White of Carlsbad and Helen Meigs of Solana Beach, who both graduated recently from The Bishop's School in La Jolla, received awards at the school's annual graduation ceremony.
Hilary, the daughter of John White and Priscilla Castillo White, earned the Upper School Instrumental Music Award and the Jerry Coleman Athletic Leadership Award. Coleman presented the award to Hilary, captain of the girls varsity basketball team, for exemplifying leadership, integrity and outstanding commitment. She plans to attend Whitman College.
Helen, the daughter of Robert and Mary Meigs, received the Sportsmanship Cup Award, which is given to senior athletes who best exemplify sportsmanship, citizenship, leadership, responsibility and character while participating in interscholastic athletics. Helen served as 2005-06 captain of the girls water polo team, which took first place at the CIF, San Diego Section Division II championship in February. She plans to attend Princeton University.
TPHS grad earns college honor
Julie Tung, a 2002 graduate of Torrey Pines High School, received the Frederick Emmons Terman Engineering Scholarship Award from Stanford, where she recently graduated in the top 5 percent of the university's engineering school.
Vista resident is prep school grad
Dylan James Hagemeyer of Vista recently graduated from The Stony Brook School, an independent college preparatory boarding and day school for seventh- through 12th-grade students in Long Island, N.Y. He will attend Hiram College in the fall.

'Odyssey' team earns awards
CARMEL VALLEY ---- Torrey Pines High School's Odyssey of the Mind team earned a second-place trophy and five silver medals from the 2006 Odyssey of the Mind world finals at Iowa State University. Team members included Daniel Gettinger, Robbie Gettinger, Stephen Goodman, Max Iantorno and Sam Neuendorf. Student Ben Brown competed with the team through the state competition.
