Assembly Republicans form task force on illegal immigration

By: North County Times - | Friday, August 25, 2006 10:55 PM PDT

Assembly Republican Leader George Plescia of San Diego announced Friday the members of a newly-formed task force on illegal immigration.

The all-Republican group will hold town hall meetings across the state in the coming months to determine the costs illegal immigrants impose on local communities and the state, Plescia said in a news release.

It will hear testimony from law enforcement, elected officials, business owners and the public. The information it gathers may be used to write legislation to address the issue, according to the release.

The panel includes Assembly members Shirley Horton, R-Chula Vista; Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine; Audra Strickland, R-Westlake Village; John Benoit, R-Palm Desert; Sam Blakeslee, R-San Luis Obispo; Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar; Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale; and Roger Niello, R-Fair Oaks.

The schedule of town hall meetings has not been determined, a spokesman for Plescia said.

With a single issue, then you don't have to talk about Arnold, state government, gangs, pensions, etc. It's only too bad that we're paying them to do this. It's redundant -- the feds are supposed to deal with immigration.

It's About Time wrote on Aug 26, 2006 8:24 AM:"Hark! I must follow them, for I am their leader." The Minutemen are way ahead of you. You Republicans are a day late and a dollar short, this should have been done twenty years ago. Now after the million illegal alien march ablaze with Mexican flags and anti-American signs you want to have a task force?? For what, to see if there is a problem? California has been invadeded by Mexico, hijacked by La Raza's La Reconquesta, plus G.W. Bush and his Globalists are pushing SPP and The North American Union. You need to include all that on the task force agenda.

Shauni wrote on Aug 26, 2006 9:47 AM:Any explanation as to why this is not a bi-partisan committee? Surely this is a problem that affects ALL of us? Could this possibly be a smokescreen agenda intending not to solve the border problem but to recapture falling Republican support?

There was abundant material supplied on the costs of having illegal immigrants! I sent Chuck Devore an e-mail wanting to know why they were not making any effort to enforce Immigration Act 235(b) (expedited removal of illegal immigrants) that had been authorized by Congress in 1996 and signed by President Clinton. It authorized the summary removal of any llegal alien found anywhere in the U.S. within 2 years of entry. I have had no response. Let's quit spending time and money and put it in action!!

Please name ONE NATIONAL ISSUE NOT effected by illegal immigration. Taxes? Education? Wages? Veteran's lesser Medical Care? Health costs? Education? Water? Property Taxes? Crowding? Pollution? Traffic? Crime? Child molestation? Bigger government? Translations? Spanish speaking problems? Poverty? ......WAR???

The same people who are talking about "fixing" it are the ones who could'nt be bothered, for one minute, to sign prop 187 that might have put the state back in the black instead of the red, which it will never, ever get out of. Note: Of course these same (cowards)people did have time to go to the great communicators funeral 5 times, with their kids. What a bunch of clowns most Californians are. True?

It is time to call this situation the way it is . No more bleaching . Our government is impotent . MR Bush , Globalist rattened b....d , acts like an Imperor , but his Imperium is rattened from within . Theft , corruption , political manipulation , and self - service can only lead in one direction . I have never seen so many angry Americans as today . They will pay dearly for this sell - out . The most popular items to buy here in Arizona ar : guns , powder and none parishable food . I have never seen such a display of ignorance as today , by our current officials . I am even ashamed to addmit , that I had voted for Bush the second time around . American middle class , it is time for us to realize that we are the victims of this politicalaly corrupted government . If you guys think that demos are better , you are setting yourselves for a nice ride . What we need is One strong man or woman , who loves America more than power and money . Who thinks about the future or our country and the future of our children . It is definitely not Clinton , MCCain and any of these so called forerunners . We need someone new , fresh and not corrupted .

Better hurry up, the majority will be La Raza before it's all over if we don't act right now on this issue! Thank God, it took the brave men and women of the Minuteman organization too shake these yahoo's up! It may be too late for you Incumbants, unless you put some teeth into the bite of stemming off these invaders wanting Reconquista to be a reality! Do it, don't pretend anymore!

bvv wrote on Aug 26, 2006 3:35 PM:At the first CA Republican convention following Prop 187's astounding victory, CA Republicans dropped the issue of illegal immigration like a hot rock. They would not allow speakers or even info-tables in the lobby [next to time-share and jewelry sales] I printed up a "booklet" with the title "What CA Republcan leaders say about illegal immigration" Opening the booklet [single page folded over] it was empty. I handed out several hundred. Most either laughed or glared when they looked inside. The point is that the Republican losses in CA are not due to 187, but because they backed off from the issue. BTW - I changed my registration soon after seeing what gutless wonders they were.826335p

Gary wrote on Aug 26, 2006 5:12 PM:According to this new bill that's tied up in the Senate, illegal immigrants who can prove they've been here for two years would be allowed to stay. So follow the logic here. If you can prove you broke the current law for two years, you've protected under the new law.

bryan wrote on Aug 26, 2006 5:21 PM:The republicans are not in charge in california. They cannot do anything. The democrats control control both house and senate in california. Therefore the only thing that will happen is disregarding american citizenship, this status will be removed from society and anyone who wishes to live in san diego can. they will be able to come from any country and stay as long as they want and get all the tax payer benifits. This is what the open borders democrats believe in. They keep saying that american citizenship is racist and means nothing. Everyone in the world in entitled to our tax payer healthcare and education etc.

MikeV wrote on Aug 26, 2006 6:26 PM:Republicans suck at politics here in California. They wasted too many years being too aggressive on abortion. Bush is playing that issue perfectly - personally against it but won't touch it. (Okay Bush is a horrible example because his ratings are low for other reasons.) But finally people have shut up about abortion. What is to stop legal citizens from showing up at the DMV, to get one of these "illegal immigrant" licenses? Proving you are not documented can't be that hard, even when you have documentation.

Gary in Murrieta wrote on Aug 26, 2006 8:25 PM:If you saw the movie "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)", you would think our Border Patrol is the biggest bunch of inept idiots on the Planet. Unfortunately our own Federal Government is not properly supporting the Border Patrol, and the Texas Attorney General has brought horrible and unjust charges against two agents that were just doing their jobs. It is up to us to support our Border Patrol because it is the Thin Green Line, and all we have to protect our borders.

R2 wrote on Aug 26, 2006 8:26 PM:Why are our legislators even BOTHERING with another task force? We don't need another task force to "find out" what illegals are costing us! I think that this is going to be a pattern of having all these useless investigations until the elections are over. The laws are on the books. Just enforce them!

Dear Shauni... wrote on Aug 26, 2006 9:22 PM:This is not a 'bi-partisan committee' simply due to the FACT there are ZERO Democrats who want to shut the border to illegal aliens, prefering instead to reward them for their criminal actions. They all support BUSH and if you aren't aware of that fact, you need to catch up with those of us who do.

Get Real. wrote on Aug 27, 2006 2:32 PM:There have been far too many fact-finding, time-wasting publicity-seeking, town hall meetings. When the Gov. visited El Cajon, Ca, he pretended to listen, and then said to reporters on his bus back to Sacramento, that he was "surprised by the prejudice." This has nothing to do with prejudice, it is an economical issue, and we must stop the money drain. If the legislature won't do anything about it SOON, it is time to vote others in who will.

Wastedtime wrote on Aug 27, 2006 5:22 PM:Another task force? For what? To hold more empty talks as people shuffle papers and twiddle pens? And while some group of angry advocates demand we lower our standards to accomodate lawlessness? The talking is over! IT's time for action, as in assign a tangible task force of law enforcement to round up illegal immigrants and send the back to the border where Mexican government officials shall promptly escort into Mexico and offer them jobs. It's that simple.
