OCEANSIDE ---- MiraCosta College will continue its popular International Film Series this semester with screenings of six films from around the world. Child support assistance offered in North County
VISTA ---- The county of San Diego Department of Child Support Services offers child support assistance in North County. The department holds New Case Orientation at 1 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the Vista Library, 700 Eucalyptus Ave. The next orientation is Sept. 5. The New Case Orientation is designed to assist parents in establishing a child support case or enforcing an existing child support order. In addition to receiving information about the child support process, North County parents will have an opportunity to speak with child support workers face-to-face without the necessity of traveling to the courthouse in downtown San Diego.
Those interested in attending the orientation must first complete a child support application. Parents can download the application directly from the department's Web site at http://www.sandiegochildsupport.org. Parents can also request an application be sent to them by using the online request form or by calling the Department of Child Support Services at (619) 236-7600. Parents may participate in New Case Orientation on a walk-in basis. No reservations or appointments are necessary.
Body conditioning for adults

Fire Department offers CPR classes
POWAY ---- The city's Fire Department offers Heartsaver CPR classes from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month in the classroom Fire Station No. 1, 13050 Community Road.
In addition to adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation, instruction is given on how to reduce the risk of heart disease, how to assist choking victims and how to recognize the early signs of a heart attack. Hands-on skills are practiced on lifelike mannequins.
This is a certified class, and upon completion, a two-year card will be mailed to participants. The last two hours of the class are optional and cover CPR for infants and children. Class size is limited to 12 students. A $30 course fee must be paid in advance. The fee is $20 for ages 55 and older. Each participant will receive a manual, pocket mask and course participation card.

Charity softball tournament planned
POWAY ---- RE/MAX Associates will host its first co-ed softball tournament Oct. 14 at Sportsplex USA, 12349 McIvers Court. Games will start at 9 a.m.
The tournament is a fundraiser to benefit the Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that generates health care funds for hospitals across North America that assist more than 17 million children annually. Since 1992, RE/MAX International has raised more than $56 million as the exclusive real estate sponsor of Children's Miracle Network.
A maximum of 30 teams can enter the tournament. Each team must have between 10 and 15 players, and three players must be women. The format is single elimination and three pitches per batter. Games will last 55 minutes.
Cost to participate is $405 per team. Checks should be made payable to Children's Miracle Network. The deadline to register is Oct. 1.

Help for families of mentally ill
ESCONDIDO ---- The North Inland chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill will offer a free, 12-week "Family to Family" education program from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, starting Sept. 7, at Gateway Community Church, 1451 Montiel Road.
The course is designed for family members of the mentally ill and provides practical information and educational tools to help deal with major mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety disorders.
Family participation, along with medication and therapy, can be critical for stabilization and recovery. Family members can learn ways to help their loved ones who may be suffering with a mental illness, while also receiving emotional support themselves.

Naturalist training classes offered
ESCONDIDO ---- The Daley Ranch Volunteer Association is accepting applications for positions as volunteer naturalists. Training classes will be held Saturdays, Sept. 16 through Nov. 4.
Trainees can learn about the cultural and natural history of the area, with courses covering botany, reptiles, birds, mammals, American Indian studies and geology, as well as training in basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Classes will be kept small to allow more one-on-one training.
Upon completion, volunteers will be able to lead visitors on tours of the Daley Ranch trails and talk about what can be seen from the peaks, valleys and scenic overlooks.

The 3,580-acre Daley Ranch has more than 22 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails, and is open daily from dusk to dawn. It is owned and operated by the city of Escondido.
Photography shows planned at museum
SAN DIEGO ---- The San Diego Natural History Museum will feature the works of late world-renowned photographer Galen Rowell from Sept. 16 through Nov. 12.
"Galen Rowell: A Retrospective" is the sixth show in the eight-show series, "Visions of the Natural World Through the Lens of the Masters." The series, featuring nationally recognized photographers, is a collaboration between the museum and the Ordover Gallery and will continue through February.
Rowell's daughter, Nicole Rowell Ryan, will present a lecture about the life and photography of Galen Rowell from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 16 in the museum's Charmaine and Maurice Kaplan Theater. A booksigning and opening reception for the show will follow.
All artwork in the "Visions" series will be for sale; a substantial portion of the proceeds will benefit the museum.
Admission is $6 to $11; free for members. The museum, in Balboa Park, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Candidates forum set for Sept. 7
FALLBROOK ---- Candidates for the Fallbrook Union High School Board of Trustees will introduce themselves to the community and speak on issues facing the high school district at a forum set for 7 p.m. Sept. 7 in the board room of the Fallbrook Public Utility District building at 990 E. Mission Road. The forum is sponsored by the Fallbrook Democratic Club.
Candidates will make an opening statement and answer questions posed by a moderator. The public will have an opportunity to submit questions in writing. Candidates will remain after the forum to answer individual questions. Three seats are up for election.
