ESCONDIDO ---- San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love a Clean San Diego will host the 22nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day this month. Join volunteers at dozens of sites throughout the county, including Dixon Lake, in picking up trash and recyclables along shorelines and surrounding trails.
The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 16. Bags, gloves and water will be provided. Preregistration is preferred. Go to http://www.cleanupday.org or call (800) 237-2583.
Fallbrook Newcomers begin new season
FALLBROOK ---- The first Fallbrook Newcomers Club coffee for 2006-07 will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, 463 S. Stage Coach Lane. It is open to new residents of Fallbrook, Bonsall and the surrounding countryside, giving them a chance to meet new people and learn about activities the group offers.
Prospective members will be welcomed by mentors and escorted to presentations by each of the activity leaders and committees. Activities include antiquing, bridge, ballroom dancing, book clubs, bunco, camping/RVing, gardening, gadabouts, jewelry making, knitting, mah jongg, movie outings, salad luncheons, shanghai rummy, travel tips, walkers and bikers, wine and dine evenings and other evening social gatherings.
Sign-up sheets for participation will be available. There will be a raffle for services donated by the following local merchants: a haircut at Visions Hair Salon and a massage from The Wellspring.

Women's center plans banquet
FALLBROOK ---- The Fallbrook Women's Resource Center will host its second Celebration for Life banquet Oct. 3 at Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1405 E. Laughter therapy session scheduled
FALLBROOK ---- A laughter therapy session will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 in conference rooms A and B at Fallbrook Hospital at 624 E. Senior center sponsors trip
FALLBROOK ---- The Fallbrook Senior Center is sponsoring a trip Sept. 28 to San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino. Cost is $8, including the tip for the bus driver. The cost includes riding on an air-conditioned bus, an $8 food voucher and a "goodie bag" upon departure. The bus leaves the center at 399 Heald Lane at 9 a.m. and returns at 4:45 p.m. Participants must have photo identification, such as a driver's license, a DMV identification or passport. Exhibit features local artwork
ESCONDIDO ---- The Escondido Arts Partnership is hosting an exhibition that showcases 49 pieces by 39 local artists. "Local Color XI" is on display now through Oct. 14 at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, 142 W. Grand Ave. Show juror is Gail Roberts, artist and professor.

2nd Tuesday Book Club to meet
ESCONDIDO ---- The Escondido Public Library invites readers to the next 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Turrentine Room at the library, 239 S. Kalmia St.
This month's selection is Jodi Picoult's "My Sister's Keeper," which explores the ramifications of cloning and gene replacement therapy. Teenager Anna was conceived to provide a bone marrow match for her leukemia-stricken sister, Kate, but begins to question her moral obligations in light of the countless medical procedures she is asked to endure.
The book club will continue on Oct. 10 with a discussion on the classic "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter" by Carson McCullers; and "The History of Love" by Nicole Krauss on Nov. 14.

'Overcoming Depression' video workshop set

Home stagers to spruce up St. Clare's
ESCONDIDO ---- The International Association of Home Staging Professionals Foundation will hold its annual World Wide Staging Service Day on Sept. 16. The San Diego chapter will 'stage' one of St. Clare's Homes group homes in Escondido, a shelter for homeless and battered women and children. The group will renovate the home, with donations of everything from clothing, bedding, flooring, appliances to new cabinets and counters.
Kids invited to enter folktale writing contest
ESCONDIDO ---- Schoolchildren are invited to write a folktale or fable for the chance to have it performed at the Patio Playhouse on Oct. 14. The winner will also receive four free tickets to Patio Playhouse's fall youth production "Tricksters and Treats," which runs weekends from Oct. 13 through 29. Submissions must be an original folktale or fable and written in story form, not as a script.
Any youth in first through fifth grade can enter the contest unless he or she is a Patio Playhouse cast member or has a family member on the theater's board of directors.

Florists to host blood drives
POWAY ---- Four Seasons Flower Shop, 14757 Pomerado Road, and Crystal Garden Florist, 13565 Poway Road, will host San Diego Blood Bank blood drives from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13.
All donors at these drives will be awarded a dozen roses (while supplies last) and a voucher for another dozen roses redeemable in October. Donors also will receive a medical history review and mini physical, which includes blood pressure, pulse and temperature checks.
Anyone age 17 or older in good health and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. Eating a good meal before donating is recommended.

Church offers 'Divorce Care 4 Kids'
RANCHO BERNARDO ---- The Church at Rancho Bernardo will offer "Divorce Care 4 Kids" from 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 17 through Dec. 17, at the church 11740 Bernardo Plaza Court.
The program is designed to help children ages 5 to 12 from divorced homes heal in a group setting. The focus is to bring children of divorce into the loving arms of a church family and point them to a relationship with Jesus.

Rotary Club plans 2006 Freedom Ride
RANCHO BERNARDO ---- The Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club will hold its fifth annual Freedom Ride, its largest fundraiser of the year, Sept. 23.
The event will include a 100-mile motorcycle ride, a day of fun in the park, food, an auction and T-shirts for participants. Cost to participate is $20. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
Last year's ride generated $57,000, which was recycled back into the community.

Volunteers sought to help students read
SAN MARCOS ---- Richland Elementary School is seeking volunteers to help students become good readers through its Everyone A Reader program.
Experience is not required, only a love of children and a desire to help them develop strong reading skills. Volunteers are asked to commit to 1 1/2 hours per week. Parents, college students, senior citizens and community members are encouraged to participate.
