Vista man arrested in unusual meth case

VISTA ---- Deputies seized jars containing urine that tested positive for methamphetamine Thursday outside a Vista house where a possible clandestine drug lab was reported, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Sgt. Mark Varnau said 38-year-old Ambrose Myers, who has a room at his parents' home in the 1700 block of Avocado Drive, was arrested on suspicion of possession and production of meth.

Sometimes meth users save their urine to try to recover any drug left in the liquid so they can use it again, Varnau said. He said the jars tested positive for chemicals that might have been used for such a recovery attempt.

"While I have heard of this practice in theory, I'm unsure if it would be successful enough to be a widespread practice," said Special Agent Dan Simmons, spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in San Diego.

Varnau said deputies who went to the house about 10:30 a.m. found the jars outside the home. Myers was inside the home at first, the sergeant said.

"He came outside, and he was detained in the garage" during the investigation, the sergeant said.

Pete Nice wrote on Sep 15, 2006 12:28 PM:That is the least of our worries, heroin users shoot up, then suck up their blood for a later "buzz". These needles sometimes fall out ot their back packs or "high kits" and can contain STD's or can even get you a quick "buzz". Be on the look out for syringes filled with blood and now these jars full of urine.
