Southwest Riverside County Community News Briefs: Suggestions sought for new library books

By: The Californian - | Tuesday, October 3, 2006 11:27 PM PDT

MURRIETA -- Librarians at the Murrieta Public Library are seeking suggestions from the community for books, DVDs, music titles and subject ideas they would like to see in the collection at the new library.

The grand opening of the Murrieta Public Library is on schedule for early March, and a collection that meets the information, recreation, educational and cultural needs of the community will be purchased.

In ordering the materials, the librarians are bound to parameters included within the library's mission statement and the Murrieta Public Library Plan of Service, which was one of the required documents submitted to the California State Library Office of Library Construction to win the $6.4 million Library Bond Act 2000 grant.

The materials must meet the needs of the community, taking into account the demographics and residents' favorites.

The library's collection will have 70,500 materials, of which 40,000 will be new. In addition to a variety of formats, such as audio books and CDs and nonfiction and entertainment DVDs, there will be books in many languages and additional newspaper and magazine titles not found in the existing library.

The library will have room for 100,000 items, which will allow the community to continually request additional materials.

The Murrieta Public Library Patron Suggestion Form can be found at the library's front desk or via the "At Your Service" link on the city's Web site at www.murrieta.org. For information, call 304-2665.
