Robert E. Ottaviano, 84

Robert E. Ottaviano, 84, died Dec. 29 at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside from pneumonia and Parkinson's disease.

Born April 11, 1922, in New York City, N.Y., he lived in Oceanside for 27 years. He earned an associate's degree in business and was a licensed real estate broker for 45 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military police investigator and an Italian interpreter in Italy.

Mr. Ottaviano's interests included acting and fencing, and he enjoyed volunteering to read to children to promote literacy.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brigitte Ottaviano of Oceanside; son Steve Guidry of Las Vegas; daughter Linda Glasscock of West Hills; sister Evelyn Rudy of Boca Raton, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Private cremation is planned. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, at Faith Lutheran Church, 700 E. Bobier Drive, Vista.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 2655 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 100, San Diego, CA, 92108, or the National Parkinson's Disease Association.

Joseph Thomas Scamporino, 40

FLORIDA ---- Joseph T. Scamporino, 40, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006.

Born Oct. 6, 1966, in Torrance, he had once lived in Oceanside. He grew up in Venice Beach.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1985 to 1989 and achieved a rank as hospital corpsman third class. He enjoyed spending time with his family, baseball, flying, riding his Harley and listening to music. He also wrote a book.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Mariangela Scamporino; their two children, Nicole and David, and his eldest daughter, Sophia; parents Patrick and Linda Gomez; sisters Doreen, Cindy, Aida and April; and brothers Shaun, Matthew and Mark.

A Naval honors ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in San Diego followed by a memorial service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Discovery, 560 S. Melrose Drive, Vista, with the Rev. Brian Andersen officiating. Family and friends will join in fellowship after services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contribution for his children to the Joseph Scamporino Memorial Fund, C/O Mission Federal Credit Union, 2745 Jefferson St., Suite A, Carlsbad, CA 92008, Attn: Nicole Eidal, bank manager.

Haim Daniel Tabakman, 91

TEMECULA ---- Haim Daniel Tabakman, 91, died Dec. 13, 2006, at his home.

Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Lodz, Poland, he lived in Temecula.

He immigrated to Israel from Poland in 1917. He graduated from London University in 1938 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. Mr. Tabakman became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Throughout his professional career in the defense industry, he also taught and lectured at Cal State Fullerton, USC, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and Cal Tech, and published more than 30 technical papers. In 1979 he was invited to Berlin to present a study to the Commission of European Communities and the International Association for Structural Mechanics.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Temecula; daughters Carmela Wenger of Eureka and Wendy Munday of Beverly, England; sons David Gideon Arieh Tabakman of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and Jonathan Tabakman of Bend, Ore.; stepchildren Gavriel Berghouse and Tamar Emihovich. He leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren from his union with Joyce Mary Tabakman. He was step-grandfather to Beattie's eight grandchildren and five great-granchildren, and to David Tabakman's two stepchildren and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at B'Nai Haim in Murrieta.
