Bolts lose another assistant

SAN DIEGO ---- Another day, another Chargers assistant jumps ship. Tight ends coach Rob Chudzinski became the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Saturday, less than 24 hours after Cam Cameron became the Miami Dolphins head coach.

Chudzinski was with the Chargers for two years; he held a similar position with Cleveland prior to his San Diego arrival.

It's believed Chudzinski was in the running to replace Cameron, the Chargers' offensive coordinator the previous five years. But Chudzinski, a Toledo, Ohio, native, couldn't pass on returning to the Browns.

Others on Marty Schottenheimer's staff being considered for Cameron's post are James Lofton (wide receivers), Clarence Shelmon (running backs) and John Ramsdell (quarterbacks).

What limits Schottenheimer's pool of candidates is his lame-duck status. It's risky for an outside applicant to join a coach who could be gone after next season.

AJ what do you think? wrote on Jan 21, 2007 10:37 PM:I know this is not relevent but check out the Brady song on Youtube along with the Randy (Moss) song its funny. I hate to say it but I`d be willing, if he is healthy,to give Moss a shot in a Charger Jersey. Why? Because I think he would love to have a QB like Rivers putting his name back in a posotive light. & I think he would like a real shot at the Superbowl.

Why,why, why??? wrote on Jan 21, 2007 11:00 PM:It was sad to see Brees`s short commings so glaringly apparent in the loss to Da Bears. Who Dat? Rivers will be back with an experienced team & hopefully a new weapon to throw to. Randy Moss Would love to catch some Charger Touch Down passes wearing the Powder Blues. Just a thought if he is healthy.

Martyball is sure to resurrect itself to new heights eventhough the head coach is a lame duck. With a first place schedule for 2007, against tougher opponents, Schottenheimer might be gone sooner before his contract expires. Which brings the point, why not excersise a coaching change now and not waste another whole season later in the year, when Dean Spanos' hand will be forced. A.J. Smith will be correct again in his coaching assessment and analysis, by stating "I told you so!" A.J. we're all sure you have plan A, B, C, & D for a coaching staff. Jim Mora Jr. just signed with Seatle, that still leaves Steve Mariucci & Mike Martz, unless plan Z, calls for Chuck Long?

RE: Robert V. wrote on Jan 22, 2007 12:42 PM: A.J. Smith has said that he supports Marty for 2007. He recomended to Dean that the Chargers keep Marty. If the Chargers fired Marty it would be a wasted season, the only times a coach has made a Superbowl in his first year as a head coach with a new team he costed multiple 1st round draft picks. Keeping Marty was the wise move.

The chargers have been done very poorly on that. John ramsdell seems to be the best pick out of all staff in my personal opinion he's done well with the rams.

Marty said they were keeping the offensive system in tact with Cameron gone which is one clue that he will hire from within. It also makes sense in a business sense for the front office. It was Ramsdell who gave Marty and Cameron the confidence to turn PR loose immediately after the Ravens loss. Marty trusts him to run the offense and it just makes sense. Also, Randy Moss will NEVER be a Charger, period. The draft is only 3 months away and this weekend's Senior Bowl is a fun game to watch and see future NFL (Charger?) players. I'll be watching Bowe and the defensive playmakers in the secondary.

No moss on my tree wrote on Jan 23, 2007 10:47 AM:No thanks to guys like Moss who put themselves over the team. We need team players who will be a good fit on the field and in the locker room. I agree with Ramsdell for OC.

Ron wrote on Jan 23, 2007 5:32 PM:Whoever thinks The Chargers should get Randy Moss, is smoking some serious crack. Did you watch him jog through the plays in their last game of his pathetic season? Not running plays, but passing plays as well. The team really needs that. Besides, this years draft has a bountiful supply of quality wide receivers. Let's give a new unproven player a chance, instead of an old has-been primadonna a chance to prove what we've known all along. There's no "I" in team, and there's no "We" either.
