Small fire extinguished at Vista bank

VISTA ---- Firefighters extinguished a small fire in the roof of a Vista bank Tuesday, a fire spokesman said.
The fire was discovered at 12:47 p.m. at the First National Bank of North County, 302 E. Broadway, fire spokesman Randy Pusey said. No one was hurt.
A bank employee noticed smoke coming from a recessed light fixture and notified a roofing contractor that was outside the bank working on the car cover over the drive-through bank teller machine, he said.
The workers from Sylvester Roofing had been using a torch to loosen the tar and accidentally caught the roofing on fire, Pusey said. When they realized what happened they used an extinguisher to put the fire out, he said.
Firefighters stayed on scene to check the roof to make sure there was no hidden fire in the roof and wall timbers, Pusey said. Damages were estimated at $2,000, he said.
The bank was evacuated and temporarily closed, but was reopened later, he said.
