FALLBROOK - Lorraine Selix, 82, died of natural causes Friday, Jan. 26, 2007.
Born Aug. 4, 1924, in Pilot Knob, Mo., she lived in Fallbrook for six years. She had a breeding kennel in Missouri. She was an advocate for responsible pet ownership.
Mrs. Selix was preceded in death by her husband, Delos Selix. She is survived by her sons, Stanley Peters of Missouri, and Michael Peters of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters and son-in-law Katherine and Gary Blankenship of Fallbrook, and Mary Ulrich of St. Louis; sister Nancy Mauzy of Smyrna, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at United Methodist Church in Fallbrook. Private inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego is planned.

Faith Tovsrud, 91
ENCINITAS - Faith Burns Tovsrud, 91, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007.
Born Oct. 28, 1915, in New York City, she lived in San Diego County for 50 years. She was a social worker for the Los Angeles Social Security Administration for about 10 years. She was a nurse. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and was a disabled veteran. She sang in the Episcopal Choir. She was a volunteer in the clinic and library of the Seacrest Retirement Home.
Ms. Tovsrud was preceded in death by her son, Nelson Tovsrud, in 1986. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Carl and Saran Tovsrud of San Marcos and Eric Tovsrud of Chula Vista; daughter Elizabeth Tovsrud of Encinitas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and former husband Gordon Tovsrud of Chula Vista.
Visitation and viewing are scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A memorial service will follow at noon at Grace Episcopal Church of the Valley in San Marcos. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at San Marcos Cemetery in San Marcos.

Alois Fleischmann, 71
FALLBROOK - Alois "Lou" George Fleischmann, 71, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, in Oceanside.
He was born May 5, 1935, in Harrison, Pa. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a machinist mate. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Zion Lutheran Church.
Mr. Fleischmann is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lynn Fleischmann of Fallbrook; son Lou Travis Fleischmann of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughter Tamara Fleischmann of Fallbrook; brothers David Fleischmann of Orcas Island, Wash., and Pauol Fleischmann of Illinois.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fallbrook. Burial at sea is planned.

OCEANSIDE - David "Davo" Archie Brown, 52, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in Escondido.
Born Feb. 5, 1951, in Seattle, he lived in Oceanside for two years.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Kentuck Golf Course in North Bend, Ore.
Ernest Ottoson, 86
BEND, Ore. - Ernest Ottoson, 86, died of natural causes Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Oakland, he lived in Bend for 15 years. He owned and operated E. Ottoson Jewelers in Escondido for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S Army Air Corps during World War II as a staff sergeant. He enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Ottoson was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edith Ottoson; and sister Ida Ottoson. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty Ottoson of Bend; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Elizabeth Ottoson of Honolulu; daughter and son-in-law Kristine and John Keller of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Carl and Rosemary Ottoson of Fremont; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.
Lyell Kinney Jr., 76
RANCHO SANTA FE - Lyell Cary Kinney Jr., 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007.
He was born April 19, 1930, in San Diego. He was the owner of an electronic distribution company. He was in the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Squad.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of ARC, the Red Cross, MARS, RACES and ARES.
Mr. Kinney is survived by his wife, Mary A. Kinney; daughters and son-in-law Cathy and Todd, and Beth and Matt; sons and daughter-in-law Cary, and Patrick and Shannon; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends.
The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, Red Cross of San Diego, or the San Diego Hospice.

Joseph Cassidy, 87
ESCONDIDO - Joseph Bernard Cassidy, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at his home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Belfast, Ireland. He was an automobile salesperson for 45 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Jamaica. He enjoyed horse racing, playing pool and reading.
Mr. Cassidy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Tibbs, and Rod and Leila Cassidy, all of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Carlotta Cassidy of Connecticut, and Jean and Paul Lombardo of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.

Violet Ling, 87
SAN MARCOS - Violet Norma Ling, 87, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in Scripps Encinitas.
Born May 6, 1919, in Scotland, S.D., she lived in San Marcos for 29 years. She was a member of Valle Verde Activity Club of San Marcos. She was president of the Pac Bell bowling league. She enjoyed arts and crafts and quilting.
Mrs. Ling was preceded in death by her father, Howard Varing; and mother Ethel Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Donald Ling of San Marcos; daughters Leah Steadman of San Marcos and Deborah Seror of Hidden Valley; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the United Methodist Church in San Marcos.

VISTA - Elsa I. Arnal, 52, died of breast cancer Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, in Oceanside.
Born Aug. 26, 1954, in Mexico, she lived in Vista for 30 years. She worked at U.S. Healthworks.
Mrs. Arnal was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Rodriguez.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Albert Arnal of Vista; father Jose Carmen Rodriguez of El Paso, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Bobby Jones and Myrna Stevens, all of Vista; son Albert Joseph Arnal of Vista; brothers and sisters-in-law Lalo and Dora Rodriguez, Chito and Blanca Rodriguez and Cokey Rodriguez, all of El Paso; sisters and brothers-in-law Hilda and Oscar Garcia and Rosie and Bobby Martinez, all of El Paso; and two grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing are scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. and rosary recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Eternal Hills Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1147 Discovery St. in San Marcos.
Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.

Maria Rubio, 79
HESPERIA - Maria Teresa Rubio, 79, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, in Apple Valley.
Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Tequila, Mexico, she lived in Hesperia for five years.
She was a housekeeper at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Church for many years. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. She had a passion for serving people.
Mrs. Rubio was preceded in death by her husband, George Rubio, in 1990.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George and Debbie Rubio of Hesperia and Phil and Judy Rubio of Charlotte, N.C.; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law Margaret and Russ Partain of Escondido, and Mary and Tom Hall and Anna Rubio, all of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing are scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. and rosary recited at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel in Escondido.

ENCINITAS - Frederick John Kopesky, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.
He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Camden, N.J. He was a residential real estate broker.
Mr. Kopesky is survived by his wife, MaryLee Kopesky of Encinitas; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Lawrence Paris of Boynton Beach, Fla.; son Rick Kopesky of Philadelphia; 11 stepchildren; and two grandchildren.

Howard Openshaw, 82
OCEANSIDE - Howard Openshaw, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007.
Born March 17, 1924, in Pawtucket, R.I., he lived in Oceanside for 13 years. He retired in 1993 as an associate professor of urban studies at Georgia State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a tech sergeant, spending 16 months in Guam as an intercept unit operator. He was a member of Lighthouse Christian Church for 13 years, where he was a deacon, Bible class teacher and Bible study leader.
Mr. Openshaw was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Openshaw, in 1958. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Reba Openshaw of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Lewis Saffold of Kennesaw, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Audrea Openshaw of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Harold and Anne Openshaw of Willow Street, Pa., and Milton and Iris Openshaw of East Weymouth, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon Saturday, Feb. 3, at Lighthouse Christian Church, 4700 Mesa Drive in Oceanside. Private inurnment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park is planned.

Alejandro Avila, 66
OCEANSIDE - Alejandro Avila, 66, died of cancer Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at his home.
Born April 18, 1940, in San Antonio, he lived in Oceanside for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969-1970 and in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974-1990. He was recalled in 1991 to serve in Desert Storm.
Mr. Avila was preceded in death by his parents, Ramona and Daniel Avila; and brother Orlando Avila. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janice Avila of Oceanside; son Alexander Avila of San Diego; daughters Veronica of San Antonio and Cassandre of Oceanside; brother Daniel Avila of San Antonio; sisters Ramona, Alma and Amalia, all of San Antonio; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.
The family suggests donations in his name to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

OCEANSIDE - Toshiko Omori, 73, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007.
Born Jan. 1, 1934, in California, she lived in Oceanside for 60 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Omori is survived by her husband of 48 years, Yosoke Omori; daughter and son-in-law Carrie and Jeff Browne of Laguna Niguel; sons and daughters-in-law David and Diane of San Marcos and James and Donna of Oceanside; sister and brother-in-law Noriko and Bill Mason of Oak Park; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert Uchimura and Randy Uchimura, all of Oceanside, Shig and Becky Uchimura of Murrieta, and Art and Donna Uchimura of Ontario; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Vista Buddhist Temple, 150 Cedar Road, Building B in Vista. Interment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside is planned.
Harry Conklin, 80
RANCHO BERNARDO - Harry Conklin, 80, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in San Diego.
Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Ridgewood, N.J., he lived in Scripps Ranch and Rancho Bernardo for 26 years. He retired in 1986 as a salesperson for Cornes Motors in La Jolla and Mercedes Benz in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed boating and flying.
Mr. Conklin is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Conklin of Rancho Bernardo; sons Robert Conklin of Las Vegas, Gregg Conklin of Westwood, N.J., and Douglas Conklin of Escondido; and sisters Doris Partrick of Rancho Bernardo and Bernice Maloney of Haverstraw, N.Y.

KALISPELL, Mont. - Lois Mae Stults Hawley, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Home.
Born July 15, 1914, in Pittsville, Wis., she grew up in Carlinville, Ill. She lived in Escondido from 1953 until retirement, where she was instrumental in establishing a free health care clinic. She graduated in 1936 from Brokaw School of Nursing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell. She enjoyed her church and traveling.
Mrs. Hawley was preceded in death by her parents, John Allen and Kate Stults; husband Ralph B. Hawley; and brothers Herschel and Lloyd. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David and Kay Hawley of Corvallis, Ore., and Ralph Hawley of Port Angeles, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Wayne Murray of Kalispell; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 16, 1922, in Kansas, he lived in Sacramento for 48 years. He lived in Sun City for 25 years previously. He enjoyed trains and cars.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Miller. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Bill and Elaine Housh and Bob and Connie Housh; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Melony Harper Dorton of Taylorville, Ill.; brothers Gene Wharton of W.Va. and Randell Wharton of Fallbrook; and sisters Karen Henman of Missouri, Sharon Eckenroth of Murrieta and Muriel Askins of Florida.

He was born March 14, 1929, in Graettinger, Iowa. He was a tool maker in the aerospace industry for 42 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

MURRIETA ---- Esperanza Flores Villa, 84, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at her home.
She was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Mexico.
Mrs. Villa is survived by her husband, Jose Villa; sisters Chira Leos, Lucy Flores, Carmen Manucy, Mary Flores and Chita Villalobos; brother, Richard Flores; daughters Theresa Villa McDowell, Anita Roth, Tina Nicholas, Suzi House, Stella Villa, Lucia Barron and Mary Frances Villa; sons John Villa and Jamy Villa; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

PALM DESERT ---- Michele Dianne Clark, 50, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.
She was born July 7, 1956, in Whittier. She was the owner of a computer repair business for five years.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her son, Timothy Clark of Palm Desert; parents Jeanette and Stanley Graham of Murrieta; sister, Claudia Carlson of Santa Barbara; and brother, Steven Graham of Texas.

Helen Maxine Tucker

Helen is deeply missed by her family and many friends. She was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.
Helen loved children. In addition to her four natural children, Skip, Sharon, David and Denise, she and her husband, Tuck, helped raise several others. One of them, Carolyn, was among many family members with Helen as her life ended at home in Carlsbad.
Helen and Tuck generously opened their home to family members when they needed a place to live. At such times their home was fondly remembered as a crowded but loving place.
She was a member of the "Lunch Bunch" for many years. This group of friends, all of whom graduated from Oceanside High School, meet once a month.
She was a talented seamstress, an avid reader and an excellent bridge player.
Helen's energetic spirit and open heart will be cherished by all of us who were lucky enough to have known and loved her.
Frank Marvin Greene
Frank Marvin Greene, beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend, born November 6, 1949, in Quantico, Virginia, died on January 25, 2007, of natural causes.
He graduated from Oceanside High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Army and served two years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He left the Army to pursue a college education. He attended college at Long Beach University, where he earned a degree in business administration.
He was married in 1978 and enlisted in the Navy. He retired after 20 years of military service and made his residence in Oceanside.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Greene; children Paul Christopher Greene and Melinda Marguerite Greene; and wife Helen Greene; brothers Alan, Stephan, Michael and Gary; sister Eva Teresa Knight; nephews David Greene, Nolan Greene, Christopher Greene, Ryan Greene and John Knight; nieces Jennifer Greene, Colleen Greene, Megan Greene, Ashley Greene, Acacia Reese and Savannah Reese; stepchildren Rebakha and Shannon; and step-grandchildren Brennan, Samantha, Sierra and Merak.
A celebration of life and interment will be at Rosecrans National Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate.
Disabled American Veterans Association and Salvation Army are suggested as memorials in lieu of flowers.

Jean A. McKenzie, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at her home.
Born July 23, 1925, to Minor and Helen Coakley in Hamilton, Ohio, Jean moved to California in 1952.
She retired from Laidlaw Transit in 1989 and moved to Oceanside shortly thereafter, where she lived for the past 17 years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Mark Shaw of Oceanside; stepson and daughter-in-law Pat and Jackie McKenzie of Simi Valley, California; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Doris Coakley of Oxford, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Bill Curtis of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; grandchildren Michael McKenzie, Amber Tippett, Daniel Buhi, Danielle Shaw and Christy Shaw.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside. A reception will follow.
Randall J. Brock
Randall J. Brock, 19, of Oceanside, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in Idaho.
He was born March 5, 1987, in California and lived in Oceanside for 10 years.
He graduated from Ivey Ranch Elementary School and went to Jefferson Middle School. He graduated from Pacific View Charter School with the Class of 2005.
He loved computers, games, people and God.

Andrea Lue Nelson, born in Oceanside Hospital, September 22, 1948, passed away suddenly, January 24, 2007, in Denver, Colorado.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jerry Nelson; daughter Heather Nelson; granddaughter Jessica Nelson; mother Lula Newman; and brother Mike Newman, all living in Grand Junction, Colorado.
She is at peace with loved ones in heaven.
