U.S. Border Patrol agent opens fire on suspected illegal immigrant
By: North County Times wire services | ∞
CHULA VISTA - A U.S. Border Patrol agent opened fire on a suspected illegal immigrant near Otay Lakes today, but nobody was injured and the suspect remained at large, authorities said.
The agent, fearing for his life, fired one shot about 4:45 a.m. when the suspect picked up a rock and cocked back an arm as if to throw it at him, said Border Patrol Agent Wendi Lee.
Nobody was hurt and the suspect ran off, she said. The exact location of the incident was not immediately clear.
The alleged would-be rock thrower was one of eight suspected illegal immigrants the agent had spotted in the Otay Lakes area this morning, Lee said, adding that the seven other suspects were taken into custody for processing.
No further information was immediately released this morning.

Our border patrol agents are having to deal with too much due to a government that can't seem to enforce our own laws and want to look the other way for their own special interest.
Stasia wrote on Feb 20, 2007 9:45 AM:Thank You Border Patrol for doing your job....keeping the illegals out of here. GOD BLESS YOU and keep up the good work.
What? wrote on Feb 20, 2007 10:28 AM:Oh no, shooting at an illegal immigrant? I thought that action only put you in jail? How about crossing the border illegally and throwing a rock at the border patrol? That should put in jail.
Johhny Law wrote on Feb 20, 2007 11:03 AM:That's right here we go again. Forget about the facts and take the Green Suit guy's word for what happened. yes, I know the 'Illegal Alien'(from outer space I assume)should not be here. Not so easy keeping people out that for hundreds of years have been working here to build your freakin country. You all make me sick! Plant your own Queen Palms righteous people!
Good work Border Patrol wrote on Feb 20, 2007 11:21 AM:and keep it up. We might yet secure our borders in spite of GW and his cronies.
Dear Mr Law wrote on Feb 20, 2007 11:24 AM:It says right on the cards issued by INS that they are resident alien cards. Of course most are ILLEGAL ALIENS not immigrants. Immigrants follow the laws of our country, come in legally, pay taxes and assimulate. I would gladly pick my own fruit and veggies if you would do your lawful job and send them all back to their country of origin if they are here illegally ... oh yeah and send back the anchor babies too.
To Johnny Law wrote on Feb 20, 2007 11:41 AM:So you are saying that every illegal alien (look it up in the dictionary) should be able to come here? If we make you sick maybe you should go to Mexico with your friends. Bring you mind out of the 1800's! What was okay then is not okay now. Have you seen the schools, hospitals and the towns in general? I do plant my own palms and if you want to support the illegals you bring them to your house and see how righteous you are! I bet you think Ramos and Compean lied too!!
So What wrote on Feb 20, 2007 11:42 AM:Hay Johhny Law, if you don't like it leave!!!! This is our country now!

to Johnny Law wrote on Feb 20, 2007 1:57 PM:Senor, why don't you apply all that expertise down in Mexico. Seems your padres need some help. Wouldn't your efforts be better spent trying to convince the Mexican gov't to let the US adopt Mexico as our 51st state? Then you'd get your wish of letting all aliens be legal...but we'd get something out of it, too.

Gary wrote on Feb 20, 2007 4:34 PM:That's at least the second shooting in Southern california in the last two weeks, and the agents have still yet to hit anything. Maybe with the new Bush Kindler Gentler Border Patrol, our agents only carry blanks instead of real amunition, so that they can just scare the Illegal Crossers, and drug smugglers.
Neese wrote on Feb 20, 2007 4:37 PM:I believe that our government needs to invest a few advertising dollars to run commercials in Mexico stating that if anyone crosses the border illegally, they will be at risk for being injured or worse...then, follow through.

Oh and by the way, the Mexican government tried to install Winfield Scott as dictator for six years so he could get Mexico incorporated into the U.S. Know what Scott said? "No, because your country is so corrupt that it would threaten the free institutions of my people." Coming here for "hundreds of years." Give me a break.
Gun will always win!!!! wrote on Feb 20, 2007 6:13 PM:Rock? Gun? Rock? Gun? Rock? Gun? HHHHUUMMMM???? Please those trigger happy border patrol agents should be trained to do their jobs within the confines of the law. This smells like a cover up you know just like those other two border patrol agents who got sent to the clink. Our criminal justice system rocks.
Bill wrote on Feb 21, 2007 7:07 AM:Right On, Border Patrol. Keep it UP! This isn't people "wanting a better life" - it's a hostile invasion - nothing more. And, in California, in Sonoma, Ca, another Sutter Hospital has to close because they went broke treating illegals and delivering their "anchor's" for free. Thanks, Mexico. Good neighbors, my butt. Good neighbors don't dump garbage in your back yard.
keanolo S. wrote on Feb 21, 2007 8:39 AM:I hope the BP agent doesn't get in trouble with his higher ups due to Mexican government pressure. Jesse wrote on Feb 21, 2007 8:43 AM:To: Gun will always win!!!!, You ignorant fool, for your information the Border Patrol agent is justified to fire his weapon. He did so to protect himself, that's within the confines of the law. Before you spout your mouth and make yourself a fool, I suggest that you get your facts straight. On the same topic, I hope the Border Patrol will spend more time in the range honing their shooting skills.

Hal wrote on Feb 21, 2007 10:27 AM:To: "Gun will always win!!!!", The Border Patrol has an Extremely Important job, vital to the preservation of this great country's continued existance and in protecting all of the citizens as well as LEGAL residents and visitors. The agent had the legal and moral right to protect himself, his partner and any other innocent party at risk by the suspect's assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon. Yes, a rock qualifies as a deadly weapon. We cannot have our nation's protectors fearing for their jobs and freedom everytime they are faced with a violent violator of our laws and expect them to continue to be effective.
PlantMyOwnPalmTrees wrote on Feb 21, 2007 12:40 PM:Yes, I will plant my own palm trees or hire a U.S. citizen to do it. Not because I feel hatred toward someone trying to feed his family, not because it makes me feel superior to deny an illegal alien a job, but because my country's laws say I must. Better to endure some sore muscles or pay an honest wage than break federal law and pass my worker's social costs along to the taxpayers.
Bobby wrote on Feb 21, 2007 12:48 PM:Kristie, I agree Duncan Hunter is a good candidate. May I ask you and others to consider one thing? If it should turn out that Tom Tancredo, runs, and is ahead of Hunter, would people please considering getting behind. Toma Tancredo, from the day he entered congress has fought for the rights of Americans against people here illegally. He has fought against outsourcing insourcing and the sell-off of America. It is my opinion that any citizen who votes for ANY ESTABLISHMENT CANDIDATE,IS,wasting their vote and will be caught up in the voting for the lesser of two evils dilemma again. Voting for the lesser of two evils is voting for evil. It is immoral and illogical. Hillary,Obama,Brownback,Giuliani, Edwards,Romney, etc.ALL of them are open borders and more of the same, Americans have put up with for twenty years, at least. Tancredo-Hunter, or Hunter-Tancredo=dynamite for 2008.
Jonny Rotten wrote on Feb 21, 2007 1:03 PM:The only thing that will stop this madness is going after the business people who hire ILLEGAL aliens and stopping all welfare programs for them. The majority will go back to Mexico if there is no work. We can hang the Mexican gang bangers and drug pushers still here. I'd also hang the scum that hire Illegal aliens!
To Plant My OwnPalmTrees wrote on Feb 27, 2007 9:44 AM:I like your vision of hiring 'legal' people. I would just like to know where they are. Oh, probably playing video games in their suburban home while mommy and daddy spoil them to no end. I'l tell ya though you can never say these working people are lazy or want to be a problem. They just are providing the services for all the suburnites that are paying then to do 'HONEST' work. Sore muscles, give me a break. You don't know what sore muscles are, picking up the glass of wine and eating your cheese with Chad, Sport and Chase? If this is over the top and cruel, well can you tell me that it is not far from the truth? Count your blessings and be glad you don't have such a hard life. People don't ask to be put in these situations. As long as there are Home Depots and soft handed suburbanites with money to hire the help this will always go on. So don't be a bigot and think you are better than anyone just be thankful. Now go eat your salad that the 'Mexicans' picked for ya. Please, you are telling me you or all these spoiled lazy American kids or adults for that matter will work in 120 degree heat? Oh, her Chase is calling you across the street he has some beers and wants to watch The OC or 'Real Housewives of the OC' Get REAL!
ALEXA wrote on Mar 16, 2007 3:00 PM: This peolpe ONLY COME TO do jobs any american wouldnt do.They just want to feed their families not to harm you. Everyone should see how hard these people work so you can drink a glass of wine, or have a nice dinner were the cook is probably illegal and the person who cleans your mess in the restroom might be one to. So people just get real, ILLEGALS make life easyer for YOU.
HONEST WORK wrote on Apr 23, 2007 4:01 PM:Not ALL people (illegals) that come accross the border are here to do work. There's always going to be some criminal, that's here to deal drugs, commit murder, or any other crime. You can't just think that all are honest workers, and then hear that an illegal just killed a family because they were driving drunk.
