RB, San Pasqual claim roller hockey crowns

Rancho Bernardo and San Pasqual high schools each won varsity roller hockey championships Wednesday night at the Escondido Sports Center.

No. 2-seeded Rancho Bernardo topped No. 5 seed Poway 6-3 in the CIF San Diego Section Metro Conference championship game. The Broncos built a 4-0 lead after the first period and never looked back.

Matt Kresky scored two first-period goals for Rancho Bernardo, and Kory Grahl scored the Broncos' last three goals. Grahl also had an assist on Kresky's second goal.

Tanner Woodbury added one goal and two assists for RB, and Corbin Walters had an assist. For Poway, Stephen Lockwood, Danny Barnes and Elliot Gormican each scored a goal, and Zach Porter had two assists.

In the San Diego County Roller Hockey Conference championship game for schools that compete with club teams, San Pasqual held off Mt. Carmel 4-2. Casey Escarcega scored three goals for San Pasqual and assisted on the other, which was netted by Andrew Hatch. Hatch also had two assists for the Eagles, and Wes Langeloh had an assist.

Jimmy Kloda scored both goals for Mt. Carmel.
