North County Business Briefs: Northrop Grumman awarded $287M contract

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. a $287 million contract for the next production lot of Global Hawk unmanned aerial systems.

The high-tech spy vehicle is made in the company's Rancho Bernardo site.

Document Sciences posts record

CARLSBAD ---- Document Sciences Corp. reported revenues of $33.4 million for the year ended Dec. 31, a record for the company and an increase of 13 percent from revenues of $29.6 million for all of 2005. Net loss for 2006 was $1.48 million, compared with net income of $19,255 for the previous year.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2006, revenues were $8.8 million, compared with revenues of $8 million for the same quarter in 2005, representing an increase of 9 percent. For the three months ended Dec. 31, 2006, Document Sciences reported a net loss of $1.28 million, compared with net income of $345,486 for the period in 2005.

Micromet sees growth

CARLSBAD ---- Biotechnology company Micromet Inc. says that for the three months ended Dec. 31, it had revenues of $13.8 million, compared with $8.7 million for the same period in 2005. Also for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2006, the company reported net income of $3.4 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $6.7 million, or 42 cents per share, for the same period a year ago.

Revenues for the year ended Dec. 31, 2006, were $27.6 million, compared with $25.7 million for 2005. Also for 2006, Micromet reported a net loss of $34 million, or $1.29 per share, compared with $19.1 million, or $3.70 per share, for 2005.

Carlsbad-based Micromet also recently announced an agreement with TRACON Pharmaceuticals Inc. granting TRACON exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize Micromet's D93 for the treatment of cancer.

Javo Beverage's revenue increases

VISTA ---- Javo Beverage Co. Inc. says that for the year ended Dec. 31, revenue was $10.32 million, an increase of 67 percent compared with the previous year's revenue of $6.2 million.

For the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, Javo's revenue was $2.5 million, an increase of 72 percent over the year-ago period of $1.45 million.

The company attributed the strong revenue growth to the addition of 775 new beverage installations in 2005.

Discovery Bancorp's earnings up

SAN MARCOS ---- Net earnings in 2006 for Discovery Bancorp, parent company of Discovery Bank and Celtic Capital Corp., climbed to $1.4 million, or 72 per share, an increase of 145 percent from $553,000, or 42 cents per share, for 2005.

Figures for 2006 include full-year results from the acquisition of Celtic Capital Corp., a commercial finance company, in a transaction that closed Aug. 31, 2005. Figures for 2005 include four months' operations of Celtic Capital.

For the fourth quarter of 2006, a net loss was recorded of $62,000, or 3 cents per share, compared with net income of $330,000, or 18 cents per share, for the same period the previous year.

BioMed Realty declares dividends

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- BioMed Realty Trust Inc. announced that its board of directors declared a first quarter 2007 dividend of 31 cents per share of common stock, payable on April 16 to stockholders of record at the close of business on March 30. The increase is equivalent to an annualized dividend of $1.24 per share.

BioMed also declared a dividend of 45.58 cents per share of the company's 7.375 percent Series A Cumulative Redeemable Preferred Stock for the period of Jan. 18 through April 16. The dividend is payable on April 16 to stockholders of record at the close of business on March 30.

Realty Income announces payouts

ESCONDIDO ---- Realty Income Corp. says that its board of directors has declared an increase in the company's common stock monthly dividend to 12.71 cents per share, from 12.65 cents per share. The new annualized rate is $1.5255 per share. The dividend is payable April 16 to shareholders of record as of April 2.

The company also has declared dividends on its Monthly Income Class D and Class E preferred stock, payable April 16 to shareholders of record as of April 1. The monthly dividend amount on the Class D preferred stock is 15.36 cents per share, for an annualized rate of $1.84 per share. The monthly dividend amount on the Class E preferred stock is 14.06 cents per share, for an annualized rate of $1.69 per share.

Wage, payroll tax seminar slated

NAI subsidiary granted license

SAN MARCOS ---- Natural Alternatives International Inc., a nutritional supplements manufacturer based in San Marcos, says that the Swissmedic Authority of Bern, Switzerland, has granted a second pharmaceutical license to NAI's subsidiary, Natural Alternatives International Europe, S.A. The license allows NAIE to manufacture, import and export pharmaceuticals for sale both in Switzerland and internationally and will remain valid until January 2009.

RedHill Realty buys Arizona properties

CARMEL VALLEY ---- RedHill Realty Investors, a privately held real estate company based in Carmel Valley, has acquired three properties in the Phoenix area.

The properties ---- Pinnacle Grove, Madera Point and South Creek ---- were acquired in separate transactions, and are the company's first purchases in Arizona. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Skyriver deploys St. Bernard system

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- St. Bernard Software, headquartered in Rancho Bernardo, announced that Skyriver Communications has deployed St. Bernard's LivePrism system throughout its organization and to selected customers.

LivePrism eliminates spam and ensures that Skyriver's customers are compliant with federal and industry regulations.

RB groups part of agreement

The Association for Services Management International has entered into a long-term agreement to become part of a network of associations that includes the Rancho Bernardo-based Service & Support Professionals Association and the Technology Professional Services Association. This agreement creates the industry's first-ever alliance of services associations. However, each association will remain independent.

Bancorp makes magazine list

TEMECULA ---- Temecula Valley Bancorp Inc., parent of Temecula Valley Bank, ranked 13th on the January 2007 US Banker magazine list of Top 25 Banks in the United States with assets over $1 billion.

WEST Consultants awarded contract

Engineering firm WEST Consultants Inc., which has an office in Rancho Bernardo, was awarded a contract for hydraulic design and related services from the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The contract is for $500,000 a year, up to three years. Martin J. Teal, manager of WEST Consultants' Rancho Bernardo office, is the project manager for the contract.

YoNaturals launches distributorship program

HP joins professional services group

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- The Technology Professional Services Association, headquartered in Rancho Bernardo, says that Hewlett-Packard has become a member of the group.

Cabrillo Credit Union donates

SCRIPPS RANCH ---- In December, staff and members of Cabrillo Credit Union donated gifts and money to San Diego's Children's Hospital Convalescent Home. The majority of the items were toys and blankets.

The credit union is headquartered in Scripps Ranch.

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- Tarari Inc., a Rancho Bernardo electronics company, announced that its T9000 Multi-Core Content Processor has been awarded the 2006 Product of the Year for Best Security Product by analogZONE, a webzine for electronic design engineers that reviews hundreds of products each year.

OCEANSIDE ---- Faith Based Federal Credit Union says that it has been awarded two grants from the National Credit Union Administration, Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, and a third grant from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions.

The amounts of the grants were not disclosed.

Realtors donate to center

OCEANSIDE ---- Realtors from District 5 of the North San Diego County Association of Realtors recently donated a check for nearly $687 to The Encouragement Center in Carlsbad. The center makes sack lunches and takes them to hungry people on the streets in North County.

CARLSBAD ---- Barratt American, headquartered in Carlsbad, won 11 Silver Awards for excellence from the Sales and Marketing Council of the National Association of Home Builders for five of its communities. Among the communities noted was Amore at Vellano in Chino Hills, which won Detached Community of the Year.

Assure Controls product noted by feds

CARLSBAD ---- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says that Assure Controls Inc.'s QwikLite technology was added to the list of technical descriptions in the EPA Technology Innovation Program. The program promotes methods and advanced techniques that have been used in government projects.

Assure Controls is based in Carlsbad. Its QwikLite product uses sensitive bioluminescent plankton to assess toxic levels of contaminants in water and soils.

Bridgetech enterprise gets OK from Chinese

SOLANA BEACH ---- Guangzhou Bridgetech Medicines Company Ltd., an enterprise of Solana Beach-based Bridgetech Holdings International Inc., received the Chinese government's Certificate of Approval. This means that Bridgetech can independently import/export and distribute products under its own management.

Ware Malcomb noted by magazine

SAN DIEGO ---- Architecture, planning and interior design firm Ware Malcomb, which serves the San Diego County area, was ranked No. 61 in Interior Design Magazine's "Top 100 Interior Design Giants," which appeared in the January issue.
