Charter school hosts meeting
TEMECULA ---- The directors of Eagles Nest Academy and The Creative Arts Academy in Temecula will host an informational presentation for parents from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.Wednesday.
Kathleen Swift, director of Eagles Nest Academy, and Katherine Pangle, director of Creative Arts Academy, will speak and be available to answer questions.
Eagles Nest Academy is a kindergarten-to-sixth grade program where the parent is the co-teacher. The Creative Arts Academy is a sixth-to-eighth grade program that incorporates the creative arts with academic curriculum to solidify the learning process.
Eagles Peak Charter School is a parent choice school where the community is the classroom. Their mission is to foster the innate curiosity of students, empower their parents, and promote optimum learning by collaboratively developing a personalized learning program for each student.

School plans summer festival
WILDOMAR ---- Cornerstone Christian School will host a Summer Festival from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The event will include carnival games, rides, a craft fair, a chili cookoff and the school's annual students-vs.-staff basketball game.
Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door.

Fundraisers to aid teacher's family
TEMECULA ---- Two fundraisers are planned for Friday to benefit the family of Wayne Fritch, a Linfield Christian School chemistry teacher who died May 14 of Wegnener's granulomatosis, a rare autoimmune disease. He was 58.
Anyone who eats at Rubio's or Richie's Diner and presents a flier available on the school's Web site, www.linfield.com, will have 20 percent of their transaction donated to the Fritch family.
Mr. Fritch was survived by his wife of 35 years, Lorraine; a son, Jonathan and a daughter, Jennilynn.
Eat between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. at Rubio's, 32180 Highway 79 South, or 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. at Richie's, 32159 Highway 79 South to help the family.
The Linfield Christian Middle School jazz band will perform at 6 p.m.

Elsinore High plans reunion
WILDOMAR ---- A reunion for all alumni of Elsinore High School is planned for Aug. 25.
The reunion will be from 6 p.m. to midnight at Pechanga Resort & Casino. Tickets cost $50 until July 31 and will be $60 at the door.

Local student receives honor
TEMECULA ---- Tim S. Okabayashi from Great Oak High School has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
The society recognizes the top scholars in the nation who have achieved superior academic excellence.
Membership in the society qualifies the students for benefits including scholarship opportunities, academic honors and educational resources.
Student accepted to college
TEMECULA ---- Steve Ewing, who will graduate from Temecula Valley High School in June, has been accepted to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He will pursue a degree in aeronautical science at the university, the world's largest specializing in aviation and aerospace.
He is the son of Steve and Donna Ewing of Temecula.
Local graduates from Coast Guard academy
WILDOMAR ---- Cadet First Class Bryson C. Jacobs was one of 228 cadets to graduate Wednesday from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., he received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
During the commencement ceremony, graduates received their commission as ensigns in the Coast Guard from President Bush. They will serve a minimum of five years.
Jacobs, a 2003 graduate of Elsinore High School, is the son of Brian and Jamie Jacobs of Wildomar. His first tour of duty will be as engineering officer on the Coast Guard cutter Healy in Seattle.
Student selected for honor society
TEMECULA ---- Natalie Valdes of Temecula, a student at the University of San Diego, was selected for Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing students for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service.
Valdes, who will be a senior in the fall, is majoring in liberal studies. Her goal is to become a fourth-grade teacher.
Mortar Board, founded in 1918, has more than 200 chapters across the country. Students are selected in their junior year and continue to serve the university and community through special projects as seniors.
Luiseno repeats as math champs
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Luiseno Elementary won the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Math Field Day competition for the third year in a row May 12 at Tuscany Hills Elementary.
Members of the Luiseno teams were:
Fifth graders ---- Kelly Halderman, Jacob Blanchford, Gregg Redman, Kyle Stevens, Delanee Platner, Alyssa Casey, Jacob Hetland, Hannah Lee, Madeline Cowan, Ralph Hernandez, Sammy Rubner and Alyssa Madrid.
Fourth graders ---- Sydnee Platner, Amelia Payne, Matt Marquardt, Jeffrey Philips, Marissa Graciano, Katelyn Suhr, A.J. Sarabia, Kayla Boatright, Savannah Reis, Ashley Metoyer and Juliana Marquez.
The coaches were Barbara Druskoff and Rita Bronson.
The fifth-graders won first place ribbons in Calculator Challenge, Mental Gymnastics, Construction Derby, Estimation Station, Achi and Othello. They were second in Hex and Five-in-a-Row and third in Leap Frog.
The fourth graders took first in Mental Gymnastics, Hex, Mancala, Lines and Dots and Othello. They were second in Construction Derby and Achi, third in Leap Frog and Five-in-a-row and fifth in Calculator Challenge, Estimation Station and Luck and Logic.
