SAN MARCOS -- The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos will host the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Pacific Region ImageMakers Photo Exhibit and Contest from 5 to 7 p.m. June 8.
More than 200 photographs taken by youths ranging in age from 6 to 18 will be showcased. There are five categories for each age group: color, black-and-white, alternative, digital and photo essay. Three judges from the community will choose one photo from each age group and category to be sent to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Headquarters for judging and selection for the national contest.

Powwow on tap this weekend
OCEANSIDE -- The San Luis Rey Mission Foundation will sponsor the San Luis Rey Band of Luiseno Mission Indians' 11th annual Inter-Tribal Pow Wow from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 9 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 10 on the grounds of the Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave. Admission is free.
The event will include gourd dancing beginning at 10 a.m. each day, with the Grand Entry procession at noon and 7 p.m. June 9 and at noon June 10. Inter-tribal and competition dancing will follow the Grand Entries each day. There also will arts and crafts booths, food booths, opportunity drawings and contests.

Beach cleanup volunteers sought
DEL MAR -- The San Diego County Fair once again has joined forces with the Surfrider Foundation to sponsor cleanups at county beaches. The first 200 volunteers at each cleanup site will receive a free ticket to the fair.

Polo Club's Opening Day event set
RANCHO SANTA FE -- The San Diego Polo Club will hold its 21st Opening Day event June 10 at 14555 El Camino Real. Gates will open at noon, with the first match at 1 p.m. and main game at 3.
A fashion show featuring the latest polo styles from Argentina will be presented by La Martina boutique at 2:30 p.m. An after party where attendees can dance the tunes of Crosswinds and meet the players and members of the San Diego Polo Club will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Admission and parking cost $5 each. An optional catered lunch is available for $35. Food and drinks also will be available for sale.
Contemporary Women to meet
SAN MARCOS -- GFWC Contemporary Women of North County will meet June 11 at the Wood House in Woodland Park, 1148 Rock Springs Road. Social time will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:30.
CWONC, a nonprofit organization involved in ongoing charitable and educational projects, welcomes new members. Those interested are invited to attend the meeting.

Palomar Handweavers Guild to meet
ESCONDIDO -- The Palomar Handweavers Guild will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 845 Chestnut St.
After a brief meeting and installation of new officers, there will be an auction fundraiser featuring weaving and non-weaving related items. A potluck luncheon will follow at noon. Attendees are asked to bring their own place setting and a potluck dish to share.

Boutique sale to benefit Scripps Hospital
ENCINITAS -- Scripps Encinitas Auxiliary will hold its fundraising Spring Boutique Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 at Scripps Hospital Encinitas, 354 Santa Fe Drive. Items for sale will include designer clothes, shoes, jewelry, collectibles, electronics, kids stuff, books and baked goods.
Parkinson's support group to meet

Rare Fruit Growers to meet
OCEANSIDE -- The North San Diego County chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers will meet at 7 p.m. June 15 in Room 7003 of the new horticultural building at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive.
Sue Lin Robinson will speak on Tea Gardens. Robinson and her husband operate a small herb and vegetable nursery in Vista called Multiflora.

Fair to host Plein Air Painting Contest
DEL MAR -- The San Diego County Fair's Exhibition of Art Department will host its Plein Air Painting Contest on June 21 at the fair.
The contest is open to ages 18 and older. Preregistration is required. Entry information is available online at http://www.sdfair.com/entry (click on "Art Show"). Entry forms must be postmarked on or before June 15. One entry form per exhibitor.

Homebuyers fair set for June 16
SAN MARCOS -- Faith Based Community Development Corp., a nonprofit organization headquartered in Oceanside, will host its eighth annual North County Homebuyers Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 16 at Palomar College, 1140 W. Mission Road. Admission is free.
The fair is a one-stop-shop housing education event that brings lenders, Realtors and representatives from the various city housing programs together to help empower renters to begin the process that will help them to realize their dream of homeownership.

Guided nature hike set
RANCHO SANTA FE -- Join the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy for an easy guided nature hike on one of the newest segments of the San Dieguito River Park's Coast-to-Crest Trail from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 16.

Sue Mezera of Quilter's Paradise in Escondido will showcase and talk about quilts in her program titled "Sew Beautiful."
Also, Bonnie Smith of Carlsbad will talk about "Why the Past Is Not the Future," and professional and inspirational singer Anita Shaw will perform "Musical Patterns" accompanied by pianist Jewel Turbeville of San Marcos.
Attendees are invited to bring a quilt for show and tell.

B'nai B'rith Couples Club to meet
