Asking a landlord to spend a few minutes to verify residency status using something like an I-9 form, much like employers are now required to do, is not a big deal except to the illegal immigrant who is trying to blend into the existing community undetected. For the last 20 years, I have had to provide documents to my employer to be able to work. Fake documents is the currency of criminals and are no excuse for not implementing effective policies, such as a Federal rental ban. Foreign nationals do not have the right to invade the US and reside here without consequence because they claim some civil right violation. That is a perversion of civil rights. Every citizen of the US, including landlords, should welcome the opportunity to assist in the effort to address the problem of illegal immigration.

I voted for Bilbray, but I favor a much saner immigration policy, including an amnesty for the otherwise law abiding current illegals who have been contributing to their communities, building and cleaning our houses, building businesses (often their own), paying taxes, and obeying the law. I also support much stronger border enforcement, but much more easily crossed borders (more crossings, more agents). Bilbray got elected because, despite the massive take-down of a lot of her course materials and prior writings, plenty of people knew that Busby was from the far left Feminazi branch of the Democrat party. She didn't represent even the typical north county democrat, who is more of a chilled out eco-liberal than a gender rights activist. I still think that we have to secure the border before we give amnesty, but we can also fix a lot of what is wrong with our immigration in the meantime.

All these alleged polls that "support this bill", and I've never seen one of them, nor has anybody I know. Fact is, over 80 percent of American Citizens want no part of this bill. They want no part of amnesty or a pathway to citizenship. They remember how we got "duped" back in 1986 with the first amnesty of 4.1 illegals. Well, we now have between 15-25 million illegals (nobody knows for sure) and wide open, porous borders. We're not going to get suckered again. And, we do have a say in what happens. If we install incentives to join a work program for earning a living and not citizenship, we will meet their needs and ours. The guest worker program must enable opportunity for foreigners from all countries, not just our southern latino nations. America will realize an economic impact in any transition plan that changes the status quo but if we can quickly create the id and guest worker programs, a minimal effect will take place. We will begin to realize an immediate increase in tax revenue, a vast decrease in abuse of social services and a magnificent improvement in our country's security all while watching the illegals deport themselves. Try it, you'll like it.
