EL CAJON - A parolee suspected of driving a stolen car and leading officers on a 30-minute, high-speed pursuit from City Heights to El Cajon, was caught when the car slammed into a pole, police said.

Officers attempted to stop the 24-year-old man on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle around 9:55 a.m. on Interstate 15, said San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen.

The man took off, and during the pursuit, the 2003 Mazda Protege reached speeds of 100 mph, dodging in and out of traffic.

The car struck three vehicles before crashing into a pole at Jamacha Road and University Avenue in El Cajon at 10:20 a.m.

The driver ran from the car but was caught by authorities, said CHP Officer Rob Sanchez.

The suspect also was wanted for parole violations, said San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen.
