Gerald Geurkink, 78

SAN MARCOS -- Gerald F. Geurkink, 78, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, in Escondido.

Born May 6, 1929, in Baldwin, Wis., he lived in San Marcos for 48 years. He owned an egg ranch from 1959 to 1974. He then started in the carpet cleaning industry as a technician and equipment manufacturer. He was a member of the Escondido United Reformed Church since 1959. He enjoyed woodworking and singing.

Mr. was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Geurkink, in 2000. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Ray Kintigh of Louisiana and Sandy and David Roth of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law John and Patty Geurkink of Kentucky; sisters and brother-in-law Helen Boer of Michigan and Bernice and Bob Strain of Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Lewis and June Geurkink of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. today, June 27, at Escondido United Reformed Church, 1864 N. Broadway in Escondido. Interment will be at 1 p.m. today, June 27, at San Marcos Cemetery, 1021 Mulberry Drive, in San Marcos.

The family suggests donations to Calvin Christian School, 2000 N. Broadway, Escondido, CA 92026.

Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is handling arrangements.
