Jose Cruz, 70

CARLSBAD -- Jose "Torito" Cruz, 70, died of a heart attack, April 17, 2007, in Vista.

Born March 17, 1937, in Colorado City, Texas, he lived in Carlsbad for 50 years. He worked as a handyman, retiring in May 2003. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and belonged to the Virgen de Guadalupe organization.

Mr. Cruz was preceded in death by his mother, Monica Alvarez, in 1988, and his brother Jerry Cruz Sr. in 2006. He is survived by his father, Felix Alvarez, of Windsor; brothers and sisters-in-law Amador and Betty Alvarez of Oceanside, Eleanor Cruz of Carlsbad, and Steve and Mary Alvarez of Oregon; sisters and brother-in-law Felicita Sierra of Oceanside, Isabel and John Cantabrana of Vista, Juana Bonilla of Coalinga, and Valentina and Matilde Yanez of Barstow.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, at St. Patrick's Church, Rev. William Rowland officiating. A private burial service is planned in Geyserville.

North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
