CARLSBAD -- Marta Turner, 103, died Sunday, June 24, 2007.
Born Marta del Carmen Cartes Lobo in Concepcion, Chile, on Nov. 7, 1903, she came to the United States with her husband in 1979. She received the traditional centennial blessing from Pope John Paul II on her 100th birthday. On her 103rd birthday, Carlsbad Mayor Bud Lewis and Councilman Matt Hall delivered a proclamation honoring her birthday.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leslie Turner, in 1980. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Henry and Margrit Turner of Carlsbad, and Norman and Mabel Turner of Lancaster; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday, June 29, at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad, followed by a gathering at 3327 Don Pablo Drive, Rancho Carlsbad. Friends and neighbors are welcome.
