VISTA ---- Leonida "Lee" R. Jurgens, Ph.D., died Thursday, June 14, 2007 in Vista at Rancho Vista Retirement Community.
She was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Kurna, Estonia. She devoted her life to preschool education, starting in Estonia in 1928, and continuing in England and the U.S. She achieved her doctorate in education in Vienna, Austria in 1946. Her dissertation was on adoption. She returned to the United States and worked in many capacities as an educator: as kindergarten teacher, Baccalaureate Program supervisor, and assistant and full professor. In retirement she and her husband enjoyed their small avocado grove and myriad other fruit and ornamental trees in Vista.
Mrs. Jurgens was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, in 1991 and her son Hillar in 2002. She is survived by her many friends and her granddaughter, Jennifer.
The memorial service and interment were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Park,Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles.
