Riverside County Community News Briefs: Explorers program begins Monday

TEMECULA ---- Children 8 to 10 can develop an understanding of local, natural and social history through the Temecula Valley Museum's Summer Explorer program, which begins Monday.
The museum offers summer camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday for four weeks. Each week, students will explore a different time period and a variety of topics. Students will handle museum artifacts, meet historians, geologists and anthropologists, make take-home crafts, participate in group activities, period games and historical field trips.
The schedule is:
- Monday to Friday ---- "Exploring the Natural History of Our Valley"
- July 16 to 20 ---- "Exploring Native American Heritage"
- July 23 to 27 ---- "Exploring New World Influences"
- July 30 to Aug. 3 ---- "Exploring Pioneer Life"
Tuition for each weekly session is $65. Students must provide their own snacks, lunches and bottled water.

Boys, Girls club offers sports
TEMECULA ---- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County is holding registrations for Summer Youth Sports.
- Big Shot Black Top basketball ---- Open to boys and girls age 4 to 12, the season runs July 28 to Sept. 22 with games played Saturdays at the Pechanga Oak Clubhouse or Alberhill Ranch Clubhouse. Skills assessments will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pechanga Great Oak Clubhouse, 31465 Via Cordoba in Temecula.
- Super Kickz soccer ---- Open to boys and girls age 4 to 12, the season runs Aug. 4 to Sept. 29 with games played Saturdays at the Pechanga Great Oak Clubhouse or Alberhill Ranch Clubhouse. Skills assessments will begin at 4:30 p.m. July 16 to 18 at the Pechanga Great Oak Clubhouse.
- Grid Iron flag football ---- a noncontact 5-on-5 flag football league open to boys and girls age 6 to 14, the season runs from Aug. 11 to Oct. 6 with games played Saturdays at the Pechanga Great Oak Clubhouse or Alberhill Ranch Clubhouse. Skills assessments will begin at 4:30 p.m. July 23-25 at the Pechanga Great Oak Clubhouse.
The fee for club members is $80, which includes eight weeks of league play, jersey and a participation trophy. Nonmembers will pay an additional $20 club membership fee.

Recreation program offered at park
WILDOMAR ---- The MARS summer recreation program will begin Tuesday at Windsong Park.
The Mobile Activities Recreation Services program features a van full of games, sports equipment, arts and crafts and snacks. It is offered for children ages 5 to 14.
The van will be at the park from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through August. It is sponsored by 1st District Supervisor Bob Buster and the Riverside County Economic Development Agency.

Music day camps being offered
TEMECULA ---- Musicians Workshop will offer various summer camps in upcoming weeks.
Running Tuesday through Saturday are: Junior Chorus, 9 a.m.-noon; Beginning Chorus, 12:30 to 2 p.m.; Youth Orchestra, 9 a.m.-noon; Songwriting Camp, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also offered are Musical Theater, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday to July 21 and Hip Hop Dance class, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 17-21.

Singer coming to center
TEMECULA ---- Sallyanne Bachman, a singer who has performed with artists such as Pat Boone, Red Skelton, Bob Hope and Liberace, will perform a free concert at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Phillips Senior Center.
She sings classic and country songs geared toward people 65 and older.
Lunch will be available for $3 with reservations, which are due by Tuesday.

Church offers water fun, camp
WILDOMAR ---- Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can beat the heat at the Water Blitz from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Community Church.
The cost is $10 per child.
The church will also offer a weeklong adventure camp called "Sonforce Kids" from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 23 to 27.
The cost is $25 per child.

Burritos to benefit boys, and girls
TEMECULA ---- Members of the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team will be joined by team mascot Thunder on Thursday at Chipotle to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County.
Between 1 and 4 p.m., 50 percent of net sales will go to the club.
Players will sign autographs from 1 to 2 p.m. while Thunder will be on hand from 1 to 3.

Baby sitter training offered
LAKE ELSINORE ---- A course teaching the basics to being a super sitter will be offered Saturday at Lake Community Center.
Students 11 and older will receive training in basic safety, first aid and general care. The cost is $40.
The course runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 310 W. Graham Ave. Participants should bring a lunch.

Basketball program plans sale
MURRIETA ---- The Murrieta Valley Lady Nighthawk basketball program will have having a "Gigantic Parking Lot Sale" from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the north parking lot of Murrieta Valley High School.
Items will include electronics, bicycles, games, toys and clothes. Proceeds will benefit the basketball program.

Help needed for jazz fest
TEMECULA ---- Volunteers are needed for the Temecula Valley International Jazz Festival, Thursday to July 15 in Old Town. Professional jazz musicians will join local talent in more than 30 concerts during the four-day event.
Volunteers are need for setup, stage help, parking, VIP areas and transportation of the performers. Volunteers will be given a festival T-shirt and a pass for the event.
The Jazz Festival begins Thursday with James Torme, the son of legendary Mel Torme, Jimmie Mulidore and the Saxophone Titans, Richie Cole with Dick Berk, Marshall Hawkins and Theo Saunders at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater courtyard. Brian Auger performs inside the theater at 8 p.m.
Other performers during the weekend will be Scott Martin and the Latin Soul Band, Alex Ligterwood and Tom Lavin and the Powder Blues Band. Most performances are free.

Volunteers sought for disaster drill
TEMECULA ---- A disaster drill coordinated by the Riverside Country Department of Public Health with the Sheriff's Department and city of Temecula will be held from 8 a.m. to noon July 21 at Chaparral High School.
The purpose is to practice distribution of medications to the public in event of a public health emergency.

Winery seeks female artisans for festival
WINE COUNTRY ---- Keyways Vineyard & Winery is looking for local female artists and artisans to participate in The Femina Vita Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 21 and 22 to celebrate the launch of a new line of wines for women.
The festival offers an opportunity for artists to showcase and sell their work.

Day camp continues in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE ---- A summer day camp program is offered at Lake Community Center.
The camp is for children 6 to 11 and the fee is $40 per week, per child. Each week will have a different theme and activities. The hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Aug. 9. Children should bring a lunch.

Beach bus offered
Bus trips from Murrieta and Temecula to the beach in Oceanside will be offered until Aug. 31.
Buses are scheduled to leave Wal-Mart in Murrieta at 8:30 and 11:25 a.m. and 2 p.m. and The Promenade in Temecula at 8:59 and 11:34 a.m. and 2:09 p.m. There will be stops at the park-and-ride lot at Interstate 15 and Highway 76 and the Oceanside transit center.
Buses are scheduled to leave Oceanside at 12:45 and 3:20 p.m. and the park and ride at 1:10 and 3:34 p.m. and return to The Promenade at 1:40 and 4:15 p.m. and at Wal-Mart at 1:49 and 4:24 p.m.
The cost is $3.75 for a round trip.

Volunteers sought for film fest
TEMECULA ---- Volunteers are being recruited for the 13th annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival, slated for Sept. 12 to 16.
Positions include film presenters, audio/visual technicians, projectionists, interpreters, information/hospitality suite assistants, special events, box office/ticket and merchandise sales, workshops, MusicFest and festival office assistance, ushers and hosts and hostesses.
The festival will screen more than 100 films and showcase 10 music artists from across America and around the globe. All screenings and music performances will take place at The Movie Experience theaters in the Tower Plaza center.

Miller, Wilmoth
Jennifer Miller and Dustin Wilmoth, both of Temecula, are engaged to be married in spring 2009 in Avalon, on Catalina Island.
Jennifer is the daughter of Susan and Mike Wall of Temecula and Ken and Julie Miller of Newport Beach. A 2003 graduate of Temecula Valley High School, she attends Cal State San Marcos and is employed as a checker at Albertsons.
Dustin is the son of Doug and Cindy Wilmoth of Temecula. A 2003 graduate of Temecula Valley High School, he attends Cal State San Marcos and is employed as a bartender at Pechanga Resort & Casino.
They plan to honeymoon in the South Pacific.
ANNIVERSARY
Rehbein, 67 years
Lee and Gerre Rehbein of Murrieta celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last month.
Married June 22, 1940, in Dearborn, Mich., the couple have lived in Murrieta for more than 20 years.
A family celebration June 24 included the anniversary, seven birthdays and granddaughter Erin's graduation from Cal State Long Beach.
Lee served in the Navy during World War II and is a retired executive from Ford Motor Co. Gerre is a member of the Murrieta Red Hat Society, Beta Sigma Pi Sorority and the Christian Women's Club. The Rehbeins are members of Rancho Community Church.
They have two daughters, Geralee McMillan of Laguna Woods and Kathy Von Ossko of Palm Springs, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
