Illegal entry just one of many crimes

By: CHRIS BOYD - Commentary | Saturday, July 14, 2007 8:28 PM PDT

I was born in 1968 in Inglewood, a city within Los Angeles County. For my entire 39 years, I have resided in Southern California ---- Los Angeles, Orange and currently San Diego County. I am an 18-year law enforcement officer and I am currently a police sergeant with a North San Diego County law enforcement agency. I have worked patrol, narcotics and traffic assignments, each of which has given me the opportunity to observe the adverse impact on the community caused by illegal aliens.

As a patrol officer, I have encountered numerous situations where illegal aliens have committed acts of domestic violence, assault, burglary, rape, robbery, mayhem and murder. The city where I am employed currently has at least a half dozen outstanding warrants for the arrest of murder, rape and/or robbery suspects who were in the country illegally when they perpetrated their crime(s), only to then flee across the border into Mexico (their country of origin and citizenship).

As the supervisor of my department's vice/narcotics unit, I had the opportunity to investigate and supervise investigations of illegal aliens who cultivated marijuana, manufactured methamphetamine, and smuggled heroin and cocaine across the border. These illegal aliens frequently made tens of thousands of dollars a month from their illicit narcotics trafficking. They lived in cheap apartments or rented HUD-subsidized homes and oftentimes raised multiple children who obtained education at the expense of U.S. citizens. During the service of state and/or federal search warrants, the discovery of tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars in U.S. currency (proceeds from narcotics sales) was common. Even more frequent was the discovery of documentation of money orders/wire transfers of hundreds of thousands of dollars to foreign countries (mainly Mexico, but also to South American countries as well).

As a traffic unit supervisor, I am constantly reviewing reports of traffic collisions involving illegal aliens, many of whom are not only unlicensed, but are also uninsured. A significant percentage of hit-and-run collisions are believed to involve illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are also involved in a disproportionate number of alcohol-related serious injury and fatal traffic collisions.

As you can see, people who come to my country illegally commit crimes other than just their initial act of crossing what is supposed to be the border into what is supposed to be a sovereign nation.

As a police officer, I have taken an oath to defend the Constitution and the laws of our great nation from enemies, both foreign and domestic. Our elected officials have taken the same oath. Due to politics and the fear of false claims of racism, our elected officials consistently fail in their oath of office ---- I refuse to fail in fulfilling my oath. I commend the Escondido Police Department for their proactive stance, and sincerely hope that other law enforcement agencies follow their lead.

Chris Boyd lives in coastal North County.

Our family as victims of robberies by illegals, identity theft, hit and run know too well that many illegals are here to do harm rather then work. Many live in single family homes, have added to our gang problems, stretched community resources, etc. America better wake up. Read about the groups that support them. MECHA - Look under the history. Fire this guy!!! wrote on Jul 15, 2007 8:44 AM:Obviously we know that this man is not capable to protect and serve his community! He has a tainted and prejudged opinion of the Latino community. Please don't tell me that this guy is for real! I will not believe that the only crime being perpetrated in our cities are by illegal immigrants. Is he really trying to make us believe that he never investigates crimes committed by other ethnic groups? This guy should be fired, I do not want my tax dollars used to pay to have a racist cop on the force.

appalled wrote on Jul 15, 2007 9:03 AM:Mr Boyd, you should look for another line of work. You seem to know who the perps are before you hear any of the facts. You do a disservice to law enforcement when you let your prejudice control your actions.

John wrote on Jul 15, 2007 9:45 AM:Many legal residents commit the same crimes - it's just not as easy to sensationalize them as it is to pick on immigrants.

Stop busting pot smokers, pot growers and medical marijuana patients and spend your time solving serious crimes like the rapes and murders flaunted in this article. Stop waisting my tax money invading and busting Americans who pay taxes and live in peace and privacy. Every minute cops spend chasing a pot smoker is a minutethey could have spent solving a serious crime. CHANGE!!!!

On behalf of 30,000 US Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton and thousands more former Marines living in North County, you have truly done a great service by speaking out and speaking the truth. The alien activists will now call for your firing, but we will NOT let that happen. You have at least 80% of SD County standing with you against this Immigration Anarchy. We are taking it back and all the commies are getting scared, as they should be!

Laurel wrote on Jul 15, 2007 2:53 PM:Response to "Fire This Guy": Prejudice means to pre-judge. Officer Boyd describes very clearly what he has seen during his investigations, and in a professional manner. If an officer sees a pattern of behavior consistently during his work, and forms an opinion based on his observations, wouldn't that be called postjudice, not prejudice? It's one thing to condemn people of any color or nationality beforehand, and quite another to have experiences in the line of duty that lead to censure of individuals of a particular race or nationality. To Everyone: Each of us, of every nationality, needs to ask ourselves every day 1) Am I obeying the law of the land? 2) Am I serving as a good example to others around me? and 3) Will my children and grandchildren be able to look up to me on the basis of the actions I do today?

Don't be afraid of facts wrote on Jul 15, 2007 3:14 PM:It is good to hear from someone who has first hand knowledge about the crimes committed by illegal immigrants. So many people are afraid of being considered prejudiced or racist that they insist that everyone here illegally is just a hard working innocent. Facts are facts! Some (he is not saying all) of the illegals commit crimes and we should thank him for having the courage to say so. This article shows why every police department should work with ICE to identify criminals who are here illegally so they can be deported after being convicted & servicing their sentence.

Cal_Patriot wrote on Jul 15, 2007 3:15 PM:God bless you, Sargeant Boyd! Unfortunately, it takes real courage these days to speak out against pure evil these days. The bottom line is your sworn oath to defend the Constitution from enemies both, foreign or domestic. Your honest critics have obviously not lost a loved one to a drunk illegal alien, had their id stolen in order to sell to illegals, or seen the quality of life suffer tremendously as the invasion swells. Yet, that is. Your dishonest critics who want to you fired, who call you names, who hate your 1st amendment rights and your opinion...these are those "enemies, both foreign and domestic." Build the fence, enforce the laws and deport though attrition!

Nancy wrote on Jul 15, 2007 3:26 PM:You are so right Chris Boyd. Ilegal entry is only the first crime. This is followed by identity theft, driving w/o a license and/or insurance. Illegals fail to pay taxes when working for cash. But they don't hesitate to suck off the system. Free breakfasts and lunches for kids, free med care for kids and free education are just some of the perks going to illegals. It goes on and on. I can't believe the tax-paying American citizens have taken it for so long. I blame this out of control behavior of illegals on our President. He does nothing but imprison law enforcement who try to enforce our laws. Look at Ramos, Compean and Hernandez. And just wait to see the money Los Angeles pays out to MacArthur park demonstrators. Oh, I forgot.....These men are just American citizens. They don't count.

Not amused wrote on Jul 15, 2007 3:47 PM:Great piece and as predicted loons come out of the woodwork and miss your point. But I get it and crime would be reduced, taxpayers would benefit, and all prople here legally no matter what color they happen to be, would benefit if we only enforced our immigration laws. Enforcing the law does not make one a racist, but willful acts of breaking the law does make one a criminal. That would include illegal immigration.

Illegals have nothing to lose when they come here. They get deported and keep coming back because they know laws won't be enforced. They know they can break laws because nobody knows who they are and they more than likely are using someone else's name and ID anyway. We need to put our foot down. San Diego County especially is being turned into a corrupt Mexican county. Enough is enough and our laws need to be enforced. Allow police officers to work in tandem with ICE and we can start seeing major improvements in all of our neighborhoods. I support enforcing immigration laws. Oh and by the way, I'm Latina. Not a racist. Just because you want to preserve your country does not make you a racist.

You'll understand that he is merely stating his observations of things that have occurred (and who committed the acts) while on duty. He is not stating that he FEELS that they were committed by illegals, or that he THINKS they were or will do so in the future. Stating facts from FIRST-HAND experience is simply that. It has nothing to do with racial bias. If someone who was illegally in the country committed a crime and Mr. Boyd witnessed it, how is it racist to state the fact that the crime was committed by an illegal? The answer...IT'S NOT.

You'll never understand wrote on Jul 16, 2007 12:32 PM:Those of you who wish to "compare the statistics of legal citizens against illegals" are ridiculous. Do you really think that would prove anything in your arguments favor? To start with, an illegal by comparison to a legal resident, already has committed a crime by being here illegally (a felony if he's been deported once already). Why would you even want to have that discussion? They are here illegally (a crime in nearly ever single civilized country, including mexico). Your argument is lost before it even begins. My father has worked for the Justice Dept. appointed to the INS/ICE for 25 years in a national field operations (enforcement) capacity. I have had many opportunities to hear about the criminal elements of illegal aliens. did you know that 78% of illegal aliens in U.S. detention facilities are either repeat criminals or convicted violent criminals? Yeah, that sounds like people we should be sticking up for. NOT.

That's the real crime here. God Bless Sergeant Boyd, keep him safe, and keep him committed to the truth and to doing the job all in law enforcement should be doing!

EXCOP wrote on Jul 17, 2007 7:49 PM:One additional comment. The fault for the current situation goes back many years. More than 20 years ago when I was President of the San Diego County Police Chiefs and Sheriff's Association I introduced a motion that would commit our departments to working cooperatively with the (then) US Border Patrol in detaining illegals until USBP could arrive to take them into custody. The motion failed with only one other Chief and I voting for it. Why? Because such a policy might offend the hispanic community. Truth is that the largely LEGAL hispanic community at that time was begging us to help reduce the influx of illegals.
