Artists sought for LeucadiaART Walk
LEUCADIA ---- Leucadia 101 Main Street Association is accepting applications from artists who would like to participate in the third annual LeucadiART Walk.ÝCost is $75. All applications must be received by July 31. LeucadiART Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Ý Aug. 26.ÝCall (760) 436-2320 or go to http://www.leucadia101.com. LeucadiART Walk will feature local art galleries and artists displaying their work along Highway 101. In addition, there will be art demonstrations, a wearable-art fashion show and live entertainment. Volunteers needed for animal shelter

40th high school reunion planned

Seniors meet to dance

Chamber hosts golf tournament
CARLSBAD ---- The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce will inaugurate Carlsbad's new municipal golf course at the Opening Golf Tournament at the Crossings beginning at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the new course on Palomar Airport Road. La Costa to host golf tournament
CARLSBAD ---- Veteran jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. will be a special guest of honor at the ninth annual Geri Morrison Memorial Circle of Friends Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 at La Costa Resort & Spa, 2100 Costa Del Mar Road. Kentucky Derby winner Mike Smith is the host of this charity fundraiser with all proceeds going to Circle of Friends, which operates two group homes in North County that provide care for abused children. Police seek senior patrol volunteers
CARLSBAD ---- The Carlsbad Police Department is seeking volunteers to participate in its Senior Volunteer Patrol program. The Senior Volunteer Patrol program is for citizens 55 and older who want to help reduce crime and increase law enforcement services to the community. Senior Volunteer Patrol members are required to attend a two-week academy during the month of October. Senior Volunteer Patrol members generally volunteer one shift per week, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteers must pass a background investigation, have no felony convictions, be a current U.S. citizen, be able to get along with others and be dependable.ÝIn addition, patrol members must be at least 55 years of age, be in good physical condition, possess a valid California driver's license, and have an excellent driving record and proof of automobile insurance.ÝApplicants do not need to be Carlsbad residents.
This will be the eighth such academy given by Carlsbad Police Department.ÝParticipants will receive training in a variety of topics such as traffic control, safety, first aid and CPR, ethics, radio communications, traffic citations, gangs and drugs, and crime prevention, as well as a hands-on driving safety.
