RANCHO SANTA FE ---- A pair of day laborers was reportedly robbed at knifepoint Sunday morning by two people who picked them up with the promise of work, authorities said.
The robbery was reported at 11:45 a.m., after the suspects ---- described only as a white female and Latino male ---- picked up the victims at the intersection of Saxony Road and Encinitas Boulevard in Encinitas, sheriff's Sgt. William Dreyer said.
The suspects, who drove a black, four-door Jeep Cherokee with tan or beige trim, then drove the victims to a secluded dead-end spot in the 4200 block of El Mirar in Rancho Santa Fe, Dreyer said.
At that point, the male suspect took out a large knife and demanded the workers' cash and valuables, taking an undisclosed amount of money and a cell phone before leaving the victims there and driving off, the sergeant said. The victims were not hurt, he said.
Sheriff's deputies searched the area with the help of an ASTREA helicopter, but the suspects were not found, Dreyer said.
An investigation is ongoing.
