Southwest Riverside County Community News Briefs: Interfaith Council promotes Family Night
By: The Californian | ∞
Teens from churches that are members of the Southwest Riverside County Interfaith Council will be out in force Aug. next week, contacting businesses regarding participation in the Family Night program.
The youth, ages 14 to 18, will distribute packets containing a letter from Temecula Mayor Chuck Washington, the Family Night Proclamation and placards to be displayed if businesses choose to participate by offering activities or discounts for families on Monday nights.
One of the first outreach projects of the Interfaith Council was the presentation of a proclamation in November 2005 by the Temecula City Council recognizing National Family Week, urging families to set aside one night a week to spend time together. In 2006, the council again issued a proclamation designating Monday as Family Night in Temecula.
The National Family Week premise is: Children live better lives when their families are strong, and families are strong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, social networks and services.
The Southwest Riverside County Interfaith Council is a body of faith-based community representatives seeking to unite in support, study, dialogue and action. Members meet at noon the second Thursday of each month at Pat & Oscar's, 29375 Rancho California Road in Temecula.
