Wiener dogs are off and running

SAN DIEGO ---- The 11th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals, a Pacific Life Holiday Bowl production, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium, southwest corner of the parking lot near Section J-5.
The eight fastest dachshunds from the expected field of 300 dogs at this qualifying round will race during the Lakers vs. Utah Jazz basketball game Oct. 25 at the San Diego Sports Arena to determine the San Diego finalist. The local champion will race against the winning dogs from all around the Western United States at the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Festival on Dec. 27.
The Sept. 8 qualifier is free to spectators. Entry fee is $5 per dog and includes a goodie bag and event T-shirt. Information: http://www.pacificlifeholidaybowl.com.
