WILDOMAR -- The Wildomar Volunteer Fire Company 61 and Wildomar Cub Scouts Pack 332 will host a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 61.
Dinner will include pasta, breadsticks, salad, dessert and beverages. The cost is $7 for adults and for children.
Boys will also be able to register for the Scouts.

Vail's grandson to address group
TEMECULA -- Whitney Wilkinson, the son of Sandy Wilkinson, the first general manager of the Rancho California Water District, and great-grandson of area pioneer Walter Vail will speak when the Temecula Valley Historical Society meets at noon Friday.
The meeting will be at the historical Pujol Schoolhouse on Santiago Road, across from the Catholic church.

Girls to share camp experience
TEMECULA -- American Association of University Women of Temecula Valley annually sponsors girls to attend a week's summer camp at a university to help them decide on a future career.
The middle school girls who won scholarships to Tech Trek, AAUW's math, science and technology camp at UC San Diego, will tell about their experiences from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Temecula Public Library. Also AAUW member and Tech Trek chair Cheryl Taylor will give her input about the camp where she volunteered. A tour of the library and facilities will follow the talk.

Computer users to meet Saturday
TEMECULA -- The Temecula Valley Computer Users group will learn about Windows XP and media streaming when it meets Saturday at the Temecula Public Library.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with a question-and-answer session with Mike Loring for new Windows XP users. At 11 a.m., Cheryl Wester will demonstrate recording streaming media from the Internet, showing how to record music, save radio shows, capture funny moments on video and other ways to use a computer.

Gem of the Valley art group to open season
MURRIETA -- Gem of the Valley Art Association will host pastel artist Karen Levi for its first meeting of the 2007-08 year at 2 p.m. Monday at the Murrieta Senior Center.
A business discussion will precede Levi's sketching demonstration. She will discuss the importance of value, design and drawing techniques and talk about her recent tour sketching Italian landscapes.

Genealogy society to gather
TEMECULA -- Temecula Valley Genealogical Society will meet Monday at the Temecula Public Library.

At the general meeting at 6:45 p.m., Beth McCarty will talk about researching Church of England records.

MURRIETA -- The Murrieta Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the season Tuesday.

Genealogical society to meet
WILDOMAR -- Nancy Daller, a member of the Harvey Girl Historical Society, will speak when the Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society meets at 1 p.m. Sept. 12.
Daller, who will be in costume, will talk about women's history in relation to the development of railroads and the Harvey House restaurants.

Western-themed benefit set for Oct. 13
TEMECULA -- The De Luz Women's Club will hold a western-themed benefit Oct. 13 to help the Rancho Damacitas Home for Battered and Abused Children.
The 2007 Western Extravaganza will be from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at Tucalota Creek Ranch, 39560 E. Benton Road. It will include casino games, food, music, auctions and an exhibition by Bob Avila. Tickets are $75.

Gardner Middle School collecting canned food
TEMECULA -- Earl Stanley Gardner Middle School is holding a canned food this week.
The school hopes to collect at least 400 cans, which will go to the Temecula Pantry. The pantry feeds approximately 150 families per week.
The public is invited to drop off canned food at the school's front office. Parents can also bring canned food donations with them to Back to School Night at 6:30 p.m. today.

Dance classes begin today
TEMECULA -- Dances class in rumba and merengue will begin this week at the Community Recreation Center..

Deadline is Friday for band contest
MURRIETA -- The deadline for musicians ages 18 and younger to enter the annual Battle of the Bands competition is Friday.
The contest will be held Oct. 6.Prizes will include cash, vocal lessons and a recording session.

United Way provides grant for program
TEMECULA -- United Way of the Inland Valleys recently provided a $5,000 grant to Musicians Workshop Special Needs Outreach program that will allow for performing arts and music scholarships for special needs children.
The workshop has created a program that provides hands-on creative arts-centered interactions that uses music and performance to address emotional, social, psychological and cognitive challenges.
The program will be directed by Stacy "Dove" Daniels, who is also the director of song writing, advanced choir and musical theater for Musicians Workshop.
