TODAY'S GAME: Poway at Torrey Pines
By: North County Times | ∞
Kickoff: 7 p.m. today
Records: Poway 5-0, 0-0; Torrey Pines 1-4, 0-0
TV: ESPNU
Last meeting: In 2006, Torrey Pines won 38-27.
At a glance: Coming off a bye, Poway is ranked No. 2 in the San Diego Section and No. 21 in the state by CalHi Sports heading into this nationally televised game. By contrast, Torrey Pines has struggled through its nonleague slate. The Falcons have played four top 10 teams already this season, losing to each one. The Falcons have solid skill players, but have struggled on the offensive and defensive lines. That could again prove costly against the Titans, who are solid in both areas. C Ryan Randazzo leads a strong offensive front that has consistently created room for RB Nick Ricciardulli, who has 735 yards and nine touchdowns on just 115 carries.
Prediction: Poway 35, Torrey Pines 21

ESPN? wrote on Oct 11, 2007 10:46 AM:Does anyone know why this game was chosen by ESPN? Somebody has to know someone in the right place because Carlsbad vs. Oceanside during the same week whould have been much better. Even if TP wasn't having a down year, Oside/Cbad would have been a better game to showcase SD football.-
Tribute to Coach Burke wrote on Oct 11, 2007 1:00 PM:A TP Alum who works for ESPNU swung this deal as a tribute to Coach Burke who recently retired... Too bad TP is having a down year for the first time in a long time. As for the previous poster, this is not about money, its about honoring one of the greatest HS football coaches around.-
Ben wrote on Oct 11, 2007 3:43 PM:We finally get an opportunity to show off San Diego football. Who represents us, a team i-4 and a unproven program. C-bad vs O-side are proven winners historically. Thanks Luginbill.
Whaaa we didn't get more TV. wrote on Oct 12, 2007 10:17 AM:Even though Carlsbad vs. Oceanside is already on TV, ESPN should cover it too along ABC and Home Shopping Network and Logo channel. I want to see a 24hr. carlsbad football channel. No other teams deserve a game on the tube without permission from carlsbad. -
Grad wrote on Oct 12, 2007 11:12 AM:Ben, Are you saying that Torrey isn't a proven winner? They are a traditional powerhouse as is C-bad and O-side. Stop crying and try not to get shot in the ghetto on your way home.
It was an excellent choice of 2 good programs.. wrote on Oct 12, 2007 1:37 PM:Neither TP or Poway has received the type of media/TV coverage that C-Bad & O-Side has already had this season. For C-bad and/or O-side people to complain about not receiving ALL the coverage reflects poorly on those programs. TP is a traditional N. County powerhouse and has won CIF 4 times. Poway is is unbeaten and is state ranked. To: ESPN? and parent, Don't worry, SD Football was well represented even if your teams were not selected.'
DW wrote on Oct 12, 2007 1:46 PM:Who has Poway played-NOBODY! Poor choice of games should of been Oside-CBAD, What a shame! It's all about money!
DW stands for "DimWit" wrote on Oct 12, 2007 6:46 PM:He DW, You really make a great argument. According to the schedules... Poway has played three of the same 5 teams so far that Oceanside has. A total of 6 games this season where they play the same teams. So you must mean that Oceanside has also played NOBODY! Carlsbad's schedule includes 5 of the same teams that Poway will also play. So They also play NO-BODY either, including Oceanside.
GoodGame wrote on Oct 13, 2007 10:35 AM:WOW... That Oceanside vs. Carlsbad game sure was a nail biter. Would have looked great on national TV. I mean really... Who would want to watch a truly competitive game that is decided in the final seconds anyway.
DW wrote on Oct 13, 2007 11:31 AM:Poway is overrated-have they played Helix? No! What about LCC? No! Get your facts right ... Have they played the triangle(you know the teams that have one the most CIF's=Vista, Oceanside-EC, Carlsbad? NO! Until then NOBODY should be #1 they can't be #1, feel free to play one of those schools. Poway football=soft!
To the Real Dimwit wrote on Oct 13, 2007 1:07 PM:What schedules are you looking at ? Out of six games they've only played 2 common games. Poways sched. is very soft!
To DW ... wrote on Oct 14, 2007 11:58 AM:All the teams mentioned have a schedule which includes 5 games in common. That is a lot of common opponents since they are not in the same league. Let me explain to you how it works DimWit. All teams play a 5 game non-league and 5 game in-league schedule. Your worship of Helix football is understandable but it does not make them the best team in the county. Football is a game of discipline and respect. It is obvious that you have never played as you display none of those qualities. So get back on your meds and stop your jealous ranting on articles about other teams. Why don't you go rant on this link. http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/09/01/sports/highschool/football/23_46_018_31_07.txt
