The Santiago fire in the Cleveland National Forest has halted its eastward advance about two miles west of the Riverside County line, state fire officials said this morning.
The fire, which started near Santiago Canyon Road in southeastern Orange County, grew slightly northward overnight, to 27,520 acres. Firefighters have the blaze 35 percent contained.
More than 980 firefighters and 13 helicopters are engaged with the fire today.
Portions of Santiago Canyon Road, Live Oak Canyon Road, Trabuco Canyon Road and Plano Trabuco Road remained closed this morning.
Six miles southeast of Temecula, more than 1,800 firefighters continued to battle the Poomacha fire, which grew to 43,000 acres Saturday morning from 39,000 acres on Friday. The fire began on the western slopes of Palomar Mountain and has led to evacuations in the communities of Valley Center, Pauma Valley and Pala. Evacuations continued late Friday in Valley Center, according to CalFire.
The fire was 45 percent contained Saturday morning, an improvement from 35 percent Friday.

It makes me proud to be an American, Riverside County resident and church member in Fallbrook. Also, thanks for all the volunteers who have helped the evacuees, and to the NCT for the excellent coverage and blogs.
