County residents urged to register cell phones, e-mail addresses for emergency notifications

SAN DIEGO - Residents of San Diego County are encouraged to register their cell phones and e-mail addresses for emergency notifications by visiting www.alertsandiego.org within the next few days, county officials said today.
Possible moderate to strong Santa Ana winds are forecast for next weekend, officials said.
Once e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers are registered, it will take up to 24 hours for that information to be incorporated into AlertSanDiego, San Diego County's mass notification system, commonly referred to as Reverse 911.
AlertSanDiego will provide emergency alerts to cell phones and e-mail addresses including evacuation notices, officials said. This is in addition to land line calls received by those who have land line phones, according to county officials.
If a city has registered a cell phone number, that information is automatically shared with the county cell phone registry, according to officials.

But as history has proven when you give this information to a Government source it is subject to be used by others without your knowledge. It is the Government primary purpose to protect the citizens so the reverse 911 system should be made to work without adding our cell numbers. We as users of the phone system can choose to add the call forwarding option that would include our cell if we want.
