Not such a Small World after all

If you happen to visit the happiest place on Earth this holiday season, make your way to Disneyland's most blatant snub to energy conservation -- the It's A Small World ride, which during this time of year has enough lights to be seen from space. I only recommend taking a trip on this boat ride of world peace because come 2008 the boats are docking. Why? Because our rear ends are just too big for this world.

When the "world of laughter, world of tears" ride first opened in 1964, Americans were considerably smaller (as in 175-pound men and 135-pound women on average). But if you look around now, it should come as no surprise that ... well ... "we're gonna need a bigger boat." Sorry, I couldn't resist.

So the Hawaiian hula girls will stop shaking and the Dutch kids will cease clicking their wooden shoes until the ride reopens late next year with deeper waters to transport our ever-growing waistlines.

What's next -- Thunder-thigh Railroad in Frontier Land? Supersize tea cups in Fantasy Land? Either way, the word play won't be nearly as much fun.

It just seems like a lot of Americans don't like taking responsibility for their actions. It's always someone else's fault. P.S. I think this story is totally funny!

mark wrote on Feb 27, 2008 11:31 PM:There is nothing to update. The ride is going to be closed all the way until Thanksgiving 2008 while they basically rebuild the whole water flume inside the ride. Come back in about 6 months.
