TEMECULA ---- Teenagers can show off their dance moves or their pipes during two upcoming events at Grace Mellman Community Library.
Dancers can participate in "Dance Dance Revolution: DDR" from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and singers can compete in "Mellman Idol" from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26.
Both events are for teens 13 to 17.

Weekly peace rally Friday
MURRIETA ---- United Church of the Valley sponsors a peace rally from 4 to 5 p.m. every Friday at The Community House.

Car show Saturday in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The monthly car show Saturday in downtown Lake Elsinore will feature an annual toy and food drive.
Participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or nonperishable food item in lieu of an entrance fee. The donations will benefit Cops for Kids and Helping People in Lake Elsinore.
The free shows are from 5 to 8 p.m. the fourth Saturday of the month on Main Street.

Annual Christmas tree lighting set
TEMECULA ---- The 10th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Temecula Duck Pond.
Santa will attend and holiday music will be sung by The Rising Stars of the Temecula Music Academy.

Veterans event set for Dec. 1
TEMECULA ---- The second annual Tribute to Veterans will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 1 at Ronald Reagan Sports Park, featuring speakers, awards, music and more.
At the tribute, more than two dozen veterans will receive certificates of appreciation from the state Senate and five will be presented with an Outstanding Civilian Service Award.
The primary speaker will be Major David G. Boone of the Marine Corps, recipient of the Bronze Star and other medals, who serves as Camp Pendleton's community liaison officer to Temecula. Other speakers include Stephanie Davis-Carruth from the state Department of Rehabilitation and John Thomas, judge advocate of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4089.

Balloon, wine fest contest under way
TEMECULA ---- The annual Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival poster contest is seeking entries.
Artists are encouraged to design artwork for the silver anniversary edition of the festival, scheduled for June 6 to 8 at Lake Skinner.
Original artwork must be created in a 2-D medium of oils, watercolor, pastels, mixed media, acrylic, photography and/or colored pencil. Subject matter should include the key components of the festival. Artists must be at least 18 years old.
The winner's work will be used to promote the festival. The deadline to enter is Dec. 8.

Holiday help needed for prisoners' children
WILDOMAR ---- Community Outreach Ministries is planning a Christmas party Dec. 23 to brighten the holidays for children whose parents are incarcerated. The group needs volunteers, gifts and donations to help prepare a meal and provide gifts.
Gift tags for the annual Angel Tree Christmas Party can be picked up at Ren Civil Engineering, 41593 Winchester Road, Temecula; Walsh Medical, 25405 Hancock Ave., Murrieta; A Labor of Love Adoptions, 31900 Mission Trail, Lake Elsinore; Gables at Oak Creek, 24875 Prielipp Road, Wildomar; and at three Curves locations: 32395 Clinton Keith Road, Wildomar; 31542 Railroad Canyon Road, Canyon Lake; and 26900 Newport Road, Menifee.

Church offers family nights
WILDOMAR ---- Cornerstone Community Church in Wildomar hosts Family Night at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday.
The church said the purpose is to provide an environment where families can grow spiritually while building bonds with others within the community.
Cornerstone offers clubs for boys and girls in grade school, a junior high group, Couples Connection, practical life messages called "Solutions," a money management group called "Financial Peace," and adult Bible classes on the book of Revelation.

Community center offers play zone
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Community Center offers an open play program with bounce houses, tunnels and toys from 10 a.m. to noon each Friday. The activity is for children 14 months to 5 years old.

Baby items needed by Birth Choice
TEMECULA ---- Birth Choice of Temecula is appealing for help with a critical shortage of some baby items due to an increased amount of clients.
The nonprofit pregnancy resource center needs infant formula, baby cereals, jars of food, baby wipes, baby shampoo, rash ointment and baby bath and lotions. Hosting of a baby shower is one way contributors can gather the items.

Middle Eastern exhibit continues
HEMET ---- Artifacts from Iron Age people living near the Dead Sea are featured in a traveling exhibit at the Western Center for Archaeology & Paleontology.
"Ancient Treasures from the Middle East" contains about 200 artifacts highlighting the daily life of people who lived about 4,000 years ago, displaying items from simple ceramics to ornate metal pieces.
A lecture series on related topics will be held on Thursday evenings through the exhibit's conclusion in January.
