LA JOLLA INDIAN RESERVATION - A portion of Highway 76 likely will continue closed to traffic throughout Saturday night, a California Highway Patrol official said.

The highway is closed to all westbound traffic at Rincon Rancho Road and to eastbound commuters except residents at the Lake Henshaw exit, while Caltrans workers clear mud from the road.

Sgt. Uwe Dorendorf with the California Highway Patrol said Saturday afternoon that the stretch probably won't reopen until Sunday.

The road was closed late Friday night after drainage problems in several creeks in the area caused flooding. For a short period of time early Saturday morning, some residents downstream were evacuated, said Lt. William Donahue, with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The residents were allowed to return to their homes at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

No further details were available.

The flooding is in areas burned by the Poomacha fire in October.

Vertias wrote on Dec 2, 2007 1:41 AM:76 needs modernizing also. It is shut down for hours daily with at least one accident daily. Where is SANDAG? Where are our elected officials. Remember when we were promised years ago when we passed a bond that 76 would be modernized? Does anyone care?
