People on the Move: Elias rejoins Foley & Lardner

The law firm Foley & Lardner LLP, which has an office in Del Mar, announced that Peter J. Elias has rejoined the firm's San Diego office as a partner and chairman of the firm's West Coast Tax & Individual Planning Practice. He also is a member of the firm's Business Law Department.

Geosyntec Consultants promotes Fitzwilliam, Wittig

Geosyntec Consultants in Rancho Bernardo announced the promotion of two employees.

Steve Fitzwilliam, PE, GE, has been promoted from senior project engineer to associate, and Veryl Wittig, PG, CHG, from senior project geologist to associate.

Gildea appointed to Coastal Community Foundation board

The Coastal Community Foundation has appointed Sean Gildea to its board of directors. A resident of Encinitas, Gildea is a certified public accountant and founder and president of Oceanside Glasstile, which is headquartered in Carlsbad.

Verde named Jockey team leader

Poway resident B. Verde has been promoted to team leader by Jockey Person to Person, the direct sales division of the well-known brand of comfort apparel Jockey International Inc.

Verde said she will focus on recruitment, holding home parties and helping others to build successful businesses of their own.

Grossman appointed chairman of State Bar committee

Attorney Jerome A. Grossman, a partner in Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP's San Diego office, has been appointed chairman of the Opinions Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California.

The purpose of the Opinions Committee is to review and help formulate the Business Law Section's public positions on third-party legal opinions and to support and coordinate the work of the section's standing committees on significant opinion issues.

SCORE announces new board of directors

SCORE San Diego, "Counselors to America's Small Business," has announced its 2008 board of directors for the national nonprofit organization's local chapter.

SD attorneys named in Best Lawyers guide

Fish & Richardson P.C. announced that 26 of its attorneys have been named to the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, including three from the firm's San Diego office.

The Best Lawyers guide is based on a peer-review survey in which thousands of leading attorneys throughout the country cast their votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties.

Advanced Diabetes Supply has new manager

Carlsbad-based Advanced Diabetes Supply, a division of North Coast Medical, has named Mariah Cameron as the new manager of its Customer Care & Inside Sales Division.

Cameron was hired to analyze processes and manage the rapidly growing Customer Care division, as well as develop, implement and manage a new inside sales force.

CB Richard Ellis names vice president

CB Richard Ellis announced the promotion of Louay Alsadek to executive vice president in the San Diego Central office.

Alsadek, a 20-year commercial real estate veteran, came to CBRE from Grubb & Ellis |BRE where he was the top investment broker in 2005 and top producer in 2004. He also served as vice president at Prentiss Properties where he completed more than $300 million worth of transactions.

Thill leads workshop at Social Issues Conference

John Thill, a partner with the Carlsbad-based conflict management firm Personal Strengths North America, recently facilitated a workshop at the 18th annual Social Issues Conference at the University of San Diego.

With the theme "Walking Together in Peace," the conference focused on innovative methods to increase understanding and peace in society. The keynote presenter was Nobel Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh.

Thill's session, titled "Building Peaceful Relationships," featured the Strength Deployment Inventory, a psychological based self-assessment that examines an individual's motives and values both when things are going well for them and when they experience conflict.

Stantec Architecture names managing leader

Stantec Architecture has named Howard M. Blackson III as managing leader and practice leader at its newest office in San Diego.

Blackson previously directed the Urban Design Group at Chong Partners Architecture, which joined Stantec on Sept. 14. He will focus on project management and business development for urban design and other Stantec practice areas.

He will direct day-to-day operations at 715 J St., San Diego, an office opened by Chong Partners in 2004. Stantec also operates an office at 277 Rancheros Drive, in San Marcos, which offers engineering and consulting services.

Local audiologist wins office makeover

Dr. David M. Illich, Au.D., F.A.A.A., owner of Professional Hearing Associates Inc., and has been awarded a $100,000 makeover for his Oceanside office from Oticon, a leading manufacturer of hearing instruments.

Work is already under way to transform the Oceanside site to an "audiology office of the future."

Illich also has offices in Escondido and Poway.

Foley & Lardner adds new patent agents

Expanding its Intellectual Property Department, Foley & Lardner LLP has added Kajal Chowdhury, Ph.D., Marla Melnick and Chang-Hsing (Jason) Liang as new patent agents in its Del Mar office. All are members of the firm's Chemical & Pharmaceutical Practice Group.

Flynn named president of Zimmer Dental Inc.

Carlsbad-based Zimmer Dental Inc., a leading provider of dental oral rehabilitation products and a subsidiary of Zimmer Holdings Inc., has appointed Harold C. Flynn to the position of president.

Before coming to Zimmer, Flynn served as vice president and general manager of Abbott Hematology, a business unit of Abbott Laboratories.

Carter appointed to AAAMPRO advisory board

San Diegan Clara Carter has been appointed to a two-year term on the business advisory board of Association of African American Meeting Professionals.

Carter is the principal and founder of the Multi-Cultural Convention Services Network, which has gained statewide and national attention for her efforts of growing her business in the multi-million dollar convention and tourism industry from grassroots.

AAAMPRO's R. Weldon Woodruff, recommended Carter based upon her professional abilities to organize events, generating convention and meeting business and "thinking outside the box" mentality.

Oceanside resident named division chief

The Orange County Fire Authority announced the promotion of Rick Robinson of Oceanside to division chief. His new role as chief began Sept. 28.

In his new position, Robinson will plan, direct, and coordinate fire operations in Division 3, which includes the cities of Dana Point, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

Robinson spent the past two years directing the activities of the Orange County Fire Authority's Emergency Communications Center. Before that he served as a battalion chief in Battalion Five, which includes the city of Irvine, the community of Emerald Bay and John Wayne Airport.

La Costa Glenn announces key staff changes

La Costa Glen Carlsbad, a continuing care retirement community, has promoted David D. Armour of Murietta from food and beverage director to director of operations.

As director of operations, Armour will have overall responsibility for the community's food and beverage, environmental services and activities departments. Armour joined La Costa Glen in 2004 as food and beverage director.

In addition, the retirement community has named Walter Moser of San Diego as its new food and beverage director. In his new position, Moser will manage all aspects of La Costa Glen's food and beverage activities.

Most recently, Moser served as food and beverage director for the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
